When MEA first came out I bounced off it hard. Too many things annoyed me to get any enjoyment, so it was shelved. With the news of MELE I got the itch back, so I fired it up to see if I could get past those annoyances. First thing was to lower the difficulty to Narrative. Might have been one notch too low, but I'm not an action afficionado so I'm never going to play on harder difficulties. Some of the faces seem to have improved, although they still aren't great. The classless system makes it less ME, but I got over that. The inventory system is still complete ass at least on PC.
The worst problem of all which I still hate is the save system. You can't rename your saves. There's no quick save, a staple of Bioware Games for decades. Worst of all you can't save at all during "Priority" missions. Who thought this was a good idea? They had to go out of their way to deliberately disable a feature for certain sections of the game. How crap is that? Plus it's a kick in the face for people suffering from anxiety. I may never use those saves, but having them gives me some piece of mind.
I've had some fun though and it's scratched that itch. 85 hours play in 12 days means I obviously got into it this time around.
I do wonder how many colonists are left from the Initiative though, given how many I personally shot, especially on Kadara. Felt like thousands.

I found after numerous PT's that the game does a good job with it's auto saves but you can easily save by just hitting escape then save so whilst no F5 to quick save it isn't that convoluted. Re no saves in "Priority save I am guessing it is there specifically to induce some tension into the combat and also to let you know that this is going to be a tough fight. I get where you are coming from I am also guessing you had no trouble getting through those fights especially if you played it all on narrative. LOL yeah I just did Kadara in my current PT and the number of colonists and Angara you kill OTT but this PT I just avoided most of that as I wasn't worried about picking up or completing the random generated quests. I am glad you are enjoying the game, IMO the game gets better the further in to it you get and especially once you have done all the planets and move on to the Archon's ship and Meridian. I am moving on to Elaaden so even more colonist killing. If you aren't aware there is a What Did You Do in Andromeda Today thread if you want to post your game play there. bsn.boards.net/thread/5797/today-andromeda?page=191&scrollTo=1446136

I never found the game easy, so I used some mods (some i created, some I downloaded). My style of play is to use weapons 90% of the time, with some occasional use of powers. I know many people say the game is too easy after level 30, but thats if you are changing profiles and making frequent use of powers and combos.
Last time I played was in 2017 and I started playing again after I saw MELE trailers and such. The lack of quicksave is still annoying.

I plqay on Casual an ddon't reaqlly find it tha thard tbh. If you can handle the trilogy on Casual then you should b eable to handle this. The onl yreal bi gdifference in terms of MEA reall yi sthe comba tis moer action based whereas the trilogy I'd say is moer tactical so you will need t ob eslightl ymoer on the ball as t owhaqt's going on around you but it's not really any harder than the trilogy if you'er pawying attention. Jus tkilled the second Architect in my lates tplaythroughb with Sara nex tup fo rme is t omeet up wit hthe Moshae to look over Aya's vault. When I get back to it tomorrow.

Plus it's a kick in the face for people suffering from anxiety. I may never use those saves, but having them gives me some piece of mind. Removing saves from priority missions is dumb. I generally play on narrative because I like story over repeatedly dying, since I'm not an exceptionally great gamer. It's why I hate multiplayer. I do wonder how many colonists are left from the Initiative though, given how many I personally shot, especially on Kadara. Felt like thousands. Don't worry. The krogan are still around and they breed like rabbits on steroids. That said, I suspect most colonists are still in cryo. Once Ryder and Co has tamed the annoyances around Andromeda, those colonists can be unfrozen and introduced to the worlds. However, the Initiative is also in control of Meridian and I think that makes them more powerful than anyone else around. It has control over vaults, which means it could conceivably threaten any world that falls out of line. Hey Kadara Port? You're pretty annoying. Get ready for sulfur baths.

I really enjoyed ANDROMEDA for the most part. Some of the exploration can be a bit tedious (as I find with most Open World style games), but I really enjoyed the combat system. The use of jump jets to add verticality just adds so much more fun and strategy. Also, the weapons seem to hit harder than the ones in the OT. And generally I really enjoyed the story and the characters...But still they didn't have quite the lasting impression and emotional impact of the OT characters and story. When I completed ANDROMEDA for the first time back in 2017, I felt satisfaction and a sense of enjoyment..."That was a good game over all. I quite enjoyed that," But it didn't linger with me for days, weeks months and years afterward as the OT has. The OT had such a great story and well written (also well acted) characters that it left an emotional impact on me even all these years later. That's why, even over the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series, and other games like KOTOR, for me....the original Mass Effect Trilogy is my all-time favourite, and in spite of its aged appearances and playability in its original form...I still will play it and enjoy it as much as the day I played 1, 2 and 3 each for the first time.
It never gets old.

ME:A certainly has a lot of annoying little things but overall, I still enjoyed my two PTs a lot. I fully expect to do a third one after I finish my first MELE run.
As for the lack of saves, yea, both the lack of a quicksave button (that's just quality of life, come on BW) and the disabeling of saves in Priority missions is stupid. The only time I get why they might be disabeling saves is when you escape the vaults and their death waves. because there it would be super easy to quicksave yourself into a corner. But other than that, out of combat they should have just allowed it.

I like Andromeda.
The more I play it, the more I love the gameplay (though I do limit myself to one profile per playthrough).
I will echo that it doesn't "hit" like the trilogy, but I think part of that is that Andromeda stands alone, like the Dragon Age games, and none of the games without a carried-over protagonist hit like good ol' Shep.
I do dig Andromeda, and I did a cheerful slacker Ryder as a warmup for my incoming "canon" professional Shepard.
