In view of revelations in subsequent games, it would seem that Caradin's work wasn't unique to him but he rediscovered something that existed earlier. Where do you suppose he found the knowledge? Exploring in the Deep Roads or maybe from allies in Tevinter? After all, Tevinter used golems. Were the Juggernaut guardians of the gates of Minrathous only created during Caradin's time?
We found golems in the ancient thaig so that would suggest the technology for the anvil of the void may have come from that time and may have been an invention of the ancient elves. Can golems only be created from dwarves? Look at the sarcophagus used to create Fenris, which apparently can only be used successfully on elves. That points to the magic originally associated with it being created was at a time when only elves were around to be used. Or was it a Tevinter invention, based off theories about golem creation (both use lyrium to infuse the subject) and the original creator had experimented on different races but only elves were able to successfully take the process, due to the magic in their blood perhaps?
Could the Anvil of the Void have originally been the invention of June? Were dwarves necessary to create golems in the same way as only elves were suitable for the sarcophagus? I know some people get fed up with everything tracing back to ancient elves but given what we now know about the connection between the elves and dwarves in ancient times, the idea that the process was originally used by the Evanuris on dwarves to "improve" them as tools of the gods doesn't seem so far fetched.

Thanks for another interesting video - I'd forgotten that other dwarven smiths tinkered with golems over the ages, including the Paragon Hirol who modified them to make Inferno variants. It's a bit of a design flaw though having control rods that can be used by non-dwarves, including Darkspawn! It will certainly be interesting to see what role Shale may have in DA4, if any.
Keep up the good work!

I’m admittedly in the “fed up with tracing things to the ancient elves” camp, so I’m prepared to buy the explanation that the Anvil is the product of especially advanced dwarven rune crafting practice, but I can’t rule out the possibility of June. Whether just dwarves or other races can be used for golems is an interesting question. I’ve actually wondered if golems, rock wraiths, and sha-brytol could all be connected. The sha-brytol seal themselves in lyrium infused armor. Rock wraiths are a result of dwarves eating lyrium. Golem volunteers are basically drowned/melted in molten lyrium, then shaped by the anvil. Basically I think golems are weaponized rock wraiths, while she-brytol are constrained in the early stages of becoming a rock wraith by their armor. That’s my theory. As to golems in the primeval thaig, good catch, I had forgotten about that. I suppose it could be that the primeval Thaig still had some ties to the dwarven empire until the Darkspawn appeared. I suspect the Juggernauts outside Minrathous were probably gifts during the First Blight.

Perhaps the sha-brytol armour and Caridins golems are both attempts to reproduce knowledge lost when dwarves were severed from the titans. Consciously or otherwise.
