Let's see now: France/Germany in 100 Years War, India, China, and now Japan as the next AC game.

I doubt any Assassin's Creed game will have just one preset character anymore. Odyssey and Valhalla proved that the option is a good idea for them.

If the next game is in Asia, I see them doing China first just since they are developing Shao Jun more. Maybe she'll be out character's Mentor.

Yeah, Ubi has a terrible track record for keeping secrets.

Though last time, the first solid leak was from Ubi themselves with the Valhalla poster. With so many floating around now, it's best to wait until one of the known insiders confirms it.

Well, I wouldn't call what happened with the new Spider Man legit leaks; it was a pr stunt. All those titles I think anyway served a purpose.

I know it's natural to compare but Assassin's Creed is more sci-fi then Ghost of Tsushima; like both can exist on their own. The next game is going to have some sci-fi in to make it different from Ghost.

I wouldn't be surprised at a female only game coming up. Kassandra is clearly their choice from Odyssey considering in game notes in Valhalla refer to the staff bearer before Layla as Kassandra with no mention of Alexios. But at least poor Alexios got a males name lol. Eivor is a female name and when you learn Eivor's full name it means daughter of Varin.

I'm glad this seems to be bunk. I like Japanese history for a game, but I'd go earlier. Really, there are myriad settings that would make great games. Even if we limit ourselves to only the last 2000 years, that's a phenomenal stretch of history, full of stories well suited to AC.

I do feel the recent decisions seem more driven by marketing and potential microtransactions than by "this time and place provides an excellent backdrop for an AC story". I recall reading how and why the team picked Renaissance Italy as a backdrop for what became the Ezio-Borgia arc. The era and region dovetailed with the Assassin-Templar struggle, and was rich with scheming and conflict. More recent games do feature iconic historical events, but mostly in the background. The settings feel chosen more for marketability and microtransactional potential, in my opinion. Will we ever get another game without religious pantheons and associated fantasy microtransaction gear packs?

I'd also hate to have the male/female choice taken from me. I'm fully okay with female leads. Aloy is one of my favorites. Laura Croft was cool back in the 90s (don't like the new games). There was a time when FemShep was my Shep, before creeper voice and character-creator white-washing ruined her for me. All that said, I've yet to see an AC setting in which I'd prefer or buy into a female lead more than a male lead. I don't want the choice removed unless it's important to the story and believable enough for me to buy in 100%.
