Hey necrowaif, this one was your suggestion.
So I decided to break out the Provings as a separate more detailed video, after sort of covering them in my Orzammar video. I’ve got a video about Dwarven beliefs about the Stone and the Ancestors coming next week.

I wonder how many Provings are actually to the death? I'd have thought if the Dwarves are a dying race, constantly at war, they'd rather not lose lots of capable warriors every year. Is it ever mentioned that losers forfeit their armour? That usually occurred in historical tournaments between knights.
Anyway, I gained one insight into what is to come in DA4 watching this - entering the gladiatorial arena in Minrathous!

I’d wager most of them must not be to the death, or only on very special occasions or honor duels. It just doesn’t make sense for the best dwarven warriors to be slaughtering each other on a regular basis, I agree. The ransoming of captured weapons and armor doesn’t appear to be a thing among the dwarves to my knowledge. Valos Atredum is reward enough for victory I suppose. The Provings are much more ritualized and religiously motivated than historical Knight tournaments I suppose. |
