Hey Vanguard, yeah that top picture looks horrible. I get a migraine and get dizzy just from looking at the picture. I can't imagine would it would look like physically. Very disorienting. I see your point. Yep.
You would have to:

The top picture gets approval because of the second column from the left, 5th row from the top. Although I do find it weird that he has one shortcut to TES: Oblivion and also another Oblivion that doesn't seem to be a shortcut. What's going on there? I don't know. This isn't my desktop just a picture I found on the internet.

It looks like he/she backed up the executable to the desktop. I don't agree with this. If your going to back the exe up then you do it into a ZIP file and NEVER to the desktop!

Yep, it was exactly that lack of common sense that confused me.

I think common sense is only common if it is a brand name. I have, at any given time, two or 3 icons on my desktop, max. The recycle bin is in the bottom right, the way the original monochrome MacIntosh taught me it should be. VTMB Unofficial Patch shortcut, because I forget where it is otherwise and I don't want it in my quickbar. This one is temporary, but has been there for a while because I have another play in mind there. Time to be a little darker I think Random shortcut from some file I decided to save to desktop as a temp rather than actual temp. It is in my face in the middle of the desktop, and says to me - hey lazy ass, do something with this. That's it. Anything more would obscure the N7 imagery.

Not quite. I don't consider the quick launch in the taskbar "part of the desktop", even though it is, hmmm, on the desktop. This may be confusing, lol. My quick launch is loaded, all of my regular programs are at the bottom left next to start. Explorer, LibreOffice, Paint.net, MediaMonkey, Game Clients, Firefox, Mass Effect Mod Manager - you know, the serious stuff

So today I am going to install my 970 M.2, format it and re-install Windows fresh from an Installation DVD. But before I format it, do I also need to ERASE it as well? And if so....how would I do that if I have problems with it? I am thinking that I would connect it via my USB enclosure and then erase it via Samsung Secure Erase through my (presently installed SSD).
Thoughts?
EDIT: "WINDOWS was unable to complete the Formatting. There was an error during Formatting, and now the USB Device connected to this PC is no longer recognized. The USB Device connected to this computer has malfunctioned. Please reconnect the Device and try again. If this problem persists, the drive may be defective."

I would like to know if Magician thinks the drive is healthy. As for your earlier question, you don't need to "wipe" the drive, formatting essentially erases that data but there is a receipt of it always. Erasing, or wiping, requires multiple passes of writing data and deleting it, until any receipts are destroyed and the old file system is no longer recoverable. It is unnecessary in your case, to erase/wipe. If you were selling it, then yes.

I would advise to use Crystal Disk Info to check ALL your drives.
See if it SMART errors or has other errors.

And with your troubles I really would not advise it till the issue is narrowed down more. Though with the Magician got a question: will it detect and work with regular hard drives?

Run both -obviously not at the same time and check the drives with each. If get the same result then definitely know the issue is the same. If get different results something is screwy in crazy town. Nevertheless confirms something will be off. Plus having both of these programs when combined with EaseUS hard drive suite is an absolute must.

Well, I am to report that my PC is finally up and running.....and running as good as new. I have most of programs recovered and installed, though I have a feeling I'm missing a few based on the number of shortcuts presently on my desktop so I am looking through all my folders on my SSD backup. But in the long run whatever I am missing is more than likely something I rarely if ever used, so I won't worry too much. And right now I am installed Mass Effect OT, finished 2 already, now half way through installing 3. Then going to move onto Andromeda and Fallen Order. I am not installing DA II, DA:O, DA:I or ANTHEM. After all my games are installed and I have checked that they are working properly w/o error messages... I am finally going to move on to setting up my HDDs in that new drive bay. And once that is done and working properly, I am going to be one happy guy . But....The next time something like this happens, I am going to say FRO and just buy all new stuff because this has been a complete pain in my fluffy butt. BURN IT! I SAID BURNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT! I will smash it with my drumsticks into millionses of tiny pieces, douse it in gasoline, light and match and then cleanse it with fire...don't worry. It will go *poof*, and then it will go *Kah-Blewy* Edit: 916 pm ET as for right now....I'm am very pleased and relieved to tell you all that my PC is 99.999 percent done, and it is up and running buttery smoove. I only have ME 1 to install, and I have to fix MS OFFICE that I downloaded through Work but I can call the Star Wars Help Desk on the Deathstar our HelpDesk/IT Dept tomorrow and let them deal with it. So, simple fixes. And lastly, I am going to install my HDDs and Drive bay. But after tomorrow, I am going to do a happy dance.....I am going to *bang bang bang* my drums as loud as I possibly can, do some break dancing, wiggle my fluffy tail and hop for joy! My original problem: was that every application window I opened would instantly *flash* on screen and then disappear just as quickly, leaving the program totally unresponsive. It began with Google Chrome, but then affected everything even Windows panes like "Control Panel" and "Thic PC", and the START Bar/button. Everything I did, everything I touched would *flash* on screen...the box/window would appear if only for an instant, then disappear. It got to the point where my PC was inoperable because absolutely nothing would respond. I swapped out other bootable drives (another M.2 and a 2.5 inch SSD) and within minutes, they too had the same problem. My (painful) solution was to do a completely fresh and new installation of Windows from an Installation DVD and then use the Windows Update Assistant to update it to the latest and greatest build version. This is opposed to waiting up to a year for the other Updates and builds to (imitating Peter Cullen) "Roll Out" *coughs, returns to normal voice* naturally. Then one by one I re-installed all my EXEs.

What did you do? This is a question both of curiosity, and to help others that wander into the thread. Glad that you are proceeding well though My solution was to do a completely fresh and new installation of Windows on my Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1 TB M.2 (2280 form factor).

I am curious, because I own a 2TB version of that myself.

My solution was to do a completely fresh and new installation of Windows. Yes. What about your 970 M2 drive? I am curious, because I own a 2TB version of that myself. Yes, that is what I did a fresh installation of Windows to. I installed my 1TB 970 EVO Plus M.2 (2280 form factor) back onto the M.2 slot and that is what I put the fresh installation of Windows on. Oddly enough though, when I first tried to 'format' it.....The formatting would come up with an error message that said "Formatting encountered an error and cannot continue. Please re-insert the drive and try again. If this problem persists the drive may be defective." So I ran a Health Check using Samsung Magician and Crystal Disk and both came back with perfectly healthy results. So I just ignored that message and continued with the fresh install from my Installation DVD and it installed beautifully without errors or issues. Everything except my MS OFFICE version from my workplace is working perfectly. But I can call our HelpDesk on my lunch break. Other than that, I have zero issues now. My only remaining task outside of calling the IT Dept about Office....is to install and connect my 3 WD HDDs via my new drive bay. But all of those drives are in perfect working order, having checked them just recently. Hope this answers your questions, Chad.

It does!
I wasn't sure if the drive had passed health checks. The rest of it was likely brought on by poorly QC'd Windows updates, like the one that sent me into a bootloop for 2 hours the other day... WHILE I NEEDED TO USE MY COMPUTER DESPERATELY AND NOT FOR F**KING GAMING.
Windows actually corrupted my BIOS, and so I had to flash BIOS and then Windows could undo the arcane horror they created.
Anyways, glad it was not a hardware issue. I find nuking my Windows install every few years to be a beneficial process every time. Their patching mechanism, as mature as it is, leaves A LOT to be desired.

Maybe that was the issue. M.2 driver may be too new for the version on the DVD to have recognized. So kinda of like installing to a phantom drive. That said glad it is now working. Though you may want to try updating to a USB Windows install media since optical drives may not be a thing much longer.

Happy to report that my Office 2016 license from work is working totally fine now. I think it was just a matter of properly authenticating the account and then refreshing it so it would be recognized. Now I am going to install Mass Effect. Then this afternoon I am going to hook up my drive bay. Things are looking up
