If you've killed Leliana in DA:O and in DA:I set her up to become Divine who takes over when she turns back into lyrium?

Ghost Leliana actually doesn't disappear once she becomes Divine. Ostensibly, this is because she believes she is still "needed"--and that makes sense seeing as how she is now the leader of the faithful.

I got that in one of my play throughs. Leliana doesn't vanish when she becomes Divine. Though I find it a bit spooky that a lyrium ghost was helping the entire time and now she's leader of the Chantry. Especially spooky (and with unpleasant implications) if Ghost-Leliana is Princess Stabbity...

Personally I always thought her more like the Chanter in the Hissing Wastes. I imagined her as a spirit made flesh like Cole. That's possible too. But Cole and Solas were both cryptic as hell when she disappeared. I only go with the ghost possibility because of how 'faith' seems to be strong theme for both of them. But be it spirit made flesh or flesh made spirit, both are pretty rare occurrences either way.

Just thought of this -- but I wonder if Solas and Cole knew that Leliana was a spirit in that particular world state? For that matter, I wonder if Leliana herself knew.

If you initially talk to Leliana at Haven, she says after the Warden killed her, she woke up in agony, but doesn't recall how she survived. If the Herald is baffled, Leliana will say, "You can believe what you want. I'm here now."
Not sure about Solas and Cole knowing Leliana's a lyrium ghost.

Well, ultimately I think it's just a retcon to appease all the people b*tching that she's alive even after they had their Warden "kill" her. Still, it's an interesting concept.

Cole 2.0? She believes she's alive, so she is?
Actual Leliana is alive in all my playthroughs, but I'm loling 5eva at the implications of an undead Murder Pope waging a revolution from within the Chantry.

All things considered, I thought it was a fairly decent bandaid solution for that little narrative problem, which at least has some precedent elsewhere in the universe so it's not just a one-time occurrence. And of course for those that didn't taint the ashes (which in itself is a pretty goofy decision) it doesn't even matter.
