I've now put in around 40 hours combined in these two games, and I have thoughts about the gameplay specifically.
Insert joke about MediGel here
I know a lot of people had issues with the micromanagement of gear and upgrades in ME:1, but I really liked it. All the gun upgrades wasn't an issue for me as much as having to outfit all your crew that got a bit tedious and annoying at times, but I like me some RPG shopping so it wasn't that big of a deal.
The one thing that is so inconsequential that I miss from the first game is how you could take your helmet off or put it back on without having to go back to your quarters. You can't in ME:2 and this breaks immersion. Because, how am I suppose to know that a trip to the Citadel might throw me in some quest on another planet? I get there, Shepard has no helmet and looks like a fool. Again, this breaks immersion. It's the thing that annoys me the most as ridiculous as that sounds since we now have photomode. Now I just have the helmet+breather everywhere and I guess FemShep's voice speaking through that thing is almost unintentional ASMR so it's fine. The team-wide upgrades, along with the ones specifically for each character was a nice addition though.
Also THE FACT THAT ENEMIES CAN SHOOT THROUGH COVER, LIKE THROUGH ACTUAL BOXES OR WHATEVER? THAT IS SO DAMN ANNOYING. But that's just a bug so ignore my ranting.
I also liked the points distribution system in ME:1 way more, it's kind of annoying in ME:2 and I've re-spec'ed my points so many times when I have a lot so I can upgrade some stuff I didn't have enough points to do so when, in the beginning, I stupidly put them in other powers that I don't use now. What Vanguard uses lift? Like stop. Charge + Shotty. Done.
I don't remember if any of this changes in ME:3 but I'll find out soon enough.
What are your favorite and least favorite changes from the first to the second game?

After about 30 hours of ME1 so far, I am really looking forward to ME2's streamlined gear system. Going through all the lockers in the cargo bay is just super annoying (but my OCD doesn't allow me to just not give a dam either ). The helmet thing, I don't think it's done particularly well in any of the games. IMO, with the round bits on the side the helmets look like they could actually fold up into the suit's back-neck part (sort of like the helmets of the Jaffa in the original Stargate movie). Having a little animation and a button to do that would have been super cool IMO. Ah well, not that essential I guess. it's all still better than Andromeda though, where you could only change it in some obscure options menue in the game settings. I miss the fact that I can equip armors on all squad mates from the later games but at least MELE includes all those appearance packs, so there is a bit more variety now, so that's a plus.

There reaches a certain point for me in my ME1 playthrough late in the game where I have the gear I need and I tire of sifting through mods trying to figure out who can benefit from what. Of course I don't need to open those chests on Ilos but an unlooted chest just torments me with the compulsion to open it.

I accumulated so much gear/mods by the end of my MELE ME1 run that I got sick of sorting/equpping on squad/ omni gelling - the game even warned me that I was 5 slots away from filling my 300 slot allotment. The game was raining gear upon me in quantities that broke immersion - all that and I couldn't even buy Spectre gear at the Citadel despite the recent patch, so had to slum it all the way through LOL

~30h in ME1LE - inventory works faster now than on original. I know what is needed and where after around 20 or so playthroughs, have no problem with inventory, actually the only problem was the limit So I'm not sure if I play 2 through (terminatorbaby etc.) but I'll at least try it to some extend because its LE For me almost everything, except the amount of lines the characters have went worse in 2.

I think the problem was the constant levelling and repition of the gear, forced you to spend way too much time in menus. By ME 3 they had gotten it right.

Yeah I kno wwhat you mean as by the time you reach Ilos moer often than not you already have the gear you need to finish the game with and those boxes are a waste of time after that. I managed to resist opening them this time but I don't always succeed.

I do think though that as long a syou have level 7/8 weapon though on everyone you should be fine. Because som eo fthe weapons can be just as good as a Specter gun.

The only thing I missed from ME1 that wasn't in ME2 was the helmet toggle. Everything else they did was an improvement, IMHO.
