I've asked everywhere else on the internet, might as well ask here!
Copy/Pasted from reddit:
I capture from Xbox One and PS4, then upload to Youtube.
The videos on the hard drive are usually fine, but sometimes the PS4 videos have a weird set of grainy lines on them I've never figured out. But the videos I'm asking about today look absolutely fine when played from my computer's hard drive.
However, when uploaded to Youtube, they always have extremely low quality, a terrible framerate (about 12-15 FPS) and often have the same weird, grainy lines. I have the HD encryption turned off.
Videos recorded from Xbox are also fine when viewed on the hard drive (and don't have the weird grainy lines) and they upload correctly, with standard 30 FPS and normal quality.
It's much too consistent to be a coincidence. I'm using Hauppagge capture device, but I'm pretty sure the issue as something to do with the Playstation itself. I just have no idea what it could be, or why it only seems to happen when uploading to Youtube.
Any insight or advice would be appreciated! ___________________________________________
So yeah... for some reason my PF4 footage sometimes sucks in the original file, but sometimes not. But it always seems to have horrible quality and framerate when uploaded to youtube, even when Xbox footage captured at the same resolution and framerate uploads just fine.
Edit: I think I fixed it. I believe the problem was the PS4 reverted to 1080i when I wasn't looking. I switched it back to 720p, and getting rid of the interlace effect seems to have fixed the quality problem in the initial file. I'm just testing now if it has resolved the framerate issue when uploaded to yootoob. Edit 2: That solved it, it was interlace. Footage is still blurry during fast camera motion when uploaded to yootoob, but it was a lot better than before, and I can live with it.

I could be wrong but doesn't youtube also download the file that you are trying to upload at a compressed rate so that it can download quicker and then it improves the video quality? Haven't uploaded anything in a while but I seem to remember that being a thing when I was trying to upload via my PS4

I don't know the specifics, but I'm very confident that is essentially the case. I figured the compression process was probably what was exacerbating the issue to the point that it was so noticeable once the videos had finished processing on yootoob. But switching to 720p definitely solved it. I've tested it with TLOU2 and South Park so far, and the improvements are really significant. Something about how interlace interacts with YT's compression is really bad.

If im not mistaken you should have the option of 720p, 1080i and 1080p with the basic PS4.

Yeah, my TV is only capable of 1080i, for some reason. It's a fairly early HD model, and has a few quirks. I could technically record in 1080p, but I'd only be able to see the delayed playback on the PC's capture software.

I also had issue with Utube rendering that was far worst than what i uploaded, even @720p. Image was far better @480 on my drive than UTube stuff. Also AFAIK, it takes a while after finishing upload for the vid to reach its final quality. There s something like downgrading more vids with not maxxed FPS/rez for whatever reason. paging nobody in fact
edit: problem solved
