I know we could buy one in ME3 but... ME2? Where? It's the shop in the Presidium near Barla Von... can't remember the name though. Yeah, that's ME3. I don't think its a thing you can buy in ME2 though.

Yea but it's not like you need a fancy VI to pull of a food dispenser on a timer, either.  After all, in ME2, you can buy the feeder VI (for frigging 25.000 credits). We have 4 top notch engineers on this ship. Is the implication here really that none of them are competent enough to wire up a stupid automated fish feeder?
I know we could buy one in ME3 but... ME2? Where? While you cannot buy the fish feeder in ME2, there are options, even if you don't want to to flirt with Chambers.
If you are on PC, you can simply use the LE savegame editor to set the plot flag for "had dinner with Kelly". This will trigger the fish dialogue with her (it will also make her appear in ME3 as a bonus). I guess technically it's cheating but to be honest, I just make my life easier that way.

The vanilla game in ME2 is all about Shepard learning to feed his/her own fish... and ME3 actually assumes Shepard loses a batch or two along the way (hence all the fish quips in the Citadel DLC). Feeding virtual fish was a big "internet fad" around the time the game came out.... I remember several members of my family were doing it. So, no, there is no way to buy the Aquarium VI in ME2 (without mods).

Ah the fish...  I would say that the machine that feeds them automatically is money well spent as it saves me a LOT of time. And that is why I never forget to buy it in mass effect 3 OR I wait until kelly promise me to feed them in mass effect 2. |

They're capable of caring for themselves and can survive for six months on the SR2, hiding down in Jack's room. No AI Feeder required. Or he ate the fish. Either way...
