Aso, a very first playthrough earns XP at a slower rate than subsequent playthroughs (since an XP bonus is attached to one of the completion achievements). Therefore, a first ever playthrough will likely cap out at are Level 54/55, if you do find everything (all minerals, crates, and enemies). This doesn't apply to ME1LE, all xp bonuses (20%, or, more precise 22%) are unlocked from the start. I reached level 57, close to 58 in my first playtrough, same as in original game with xp bonuses unlocked. Back to topic... No vote from me either. My first playtrough was with sentinel. Never played soldier, since I tend to pick more exotic classes in RPGs.

I haven't started another new run yet... working with NG+ instead to change a decision here and there.

I tested this on PC with dev console in my first playthrough. Added 100 xp and got 122 xp in game prompt.
To add to my previous post. My first OT playtrough was Sentinel, my first LE ppaytrough was Adept.

I didn't vote since I'm definitely not a new player. My first playthrough in 2007 was a Soldier. I only reached level 43, if I recall correctly, and missed some stuff. I played Adept (+assault rifle) on my second playthrough and was forever after a fan of biotics. I mostly played Vanguard (+singularity) and Infiltrator (+hacking or medicine) once I "got gud" at building characters. It's hard to say what my favorite class in the trilogy is now, as they all offer a great experience. For ME1, though, it's definitely Sentinel. The classes were far less unique in ME1, and Sentinel offers the most complete package. I think Sentinel might now the best class for ME1 based on the changes made in Legendary Edition now that every class can use all guns.

I think Sentinel might now the best class for ME1 based on the changes made in Legendary Edition now that every class can use all guns. Not only that. If you play Adept or Engineer beside Sentinel, you don't need to waste points in armor and weapons talent trees since you can now kill enemies much faster and position your self better for long range sniper kills.

In both my playthroughs of ME1 I played with classic leveling, but I can never reach level 60. The highest I reach is 54. Has anyone ever reached level 60 in OT or LE? The highest attainable level in single playthrough is 57. They said they'd change this on the LE but didn't. They did change ME2 import bonuses, though, crediting a level 57 character as if they were level 60. I think they meant to "fix" this in the latest patch for LE. You used to need about 200k XP to go from 57 to 60. Instead of closing the spread, they added 200k more. Now, the gap between 57 and 60 is 400k. It takes around half a completionist playthrough to accumulate that much.

No, they didn't changed xp needed for Classic Mode, they changed xp needed for Legendary Mode (kind of). Level 30 was equal to level 59 before patch and because of that it was bugged, now level 30 is equal to level 60 and you need 200k more xp to reach level 30 from level 29, because level 29 is equal to level 57, so total amount of xp for level cap stayed unchanged. I posted detailed pre patch leveling comparison in "What changed" thread IIRC. EDIT: This is the thread: bsn.boards.net/thread/19053/hit-level-60-1

That's why I saw the huge jump in "XP yet to go" when I did a NG+. I've just stuck with the LE leveling when playing. It matches ME2's leveling, which is clean, I guess. I also like getting those skill points in bigger bunches. Two points? Sure, I can use (or save) those. Six points? I like it! Give me more! 😄

Not voting due to not being new but I will comment. My initial PT was Sole Survivor/Soldier/Paragon. I consider it my canon PT even though I usually play Vanguard. I posted it a long time ago in "What did you do today in ME?" bsn.boards.net/post/123199

It's been so long that I don't remember exactly the class of my first playthrought. I think I would have probably chosen soldier to get the heavier armor, to this day it is still my favorite class as it is simple but VERY practical.
