I'll start my first solo just after the post. My best choice is the Human Inflitrator for starting, and I'm not sure how effective the Valkyrie would be (I don't remember anything about that gun atm), so I'm sticking with the Mantis. Wish me luck.

So, I went U/U/B (risky, and it backfired), got Hydra/Cerberus. The match went smooth, except the two objective waves. The game blessed me with devices, and really bad ones. I could manage W3, but not W6, I ran out of time. The dragoons surprised me at the worst time, when I nearly did the given device, and after I took care of them, the game always put the devices the worst places imaginable (in the middle of the Cerb soldiers, near a Turret or out in the open), so the timer went zero while I was shutting down the last one. Sadly, I lost my only medigel as well, due to a Trooper Grenade (I hate it when they throw it like a mine and you ran into them just before it explodes)

I got 2156 creds, so I can't buy a recruit pack, but I am lvl 3 now. I will try a Giant/Reaper, so my chances or levelling up would be faster.

Edit: I should have started with this, I would have my medigel. I got 6 points, spent them into TC, so I can reach 4b faster. I have my first bronze solo.

Now I'm level 7, and it's time to hit the store again.

The drops favor my current character, the HMI and his Mantis, so I'm staying with that. I didn't get any medigel though...

Next U/U became a Reactor/Collector. Devices, Hack (the middle of the reactor one, so that was tricky), Devices (why am I getting so much devices?). Pics here and here. I have my first challenge points, not surprisingly the Mantis use. Character state.

I got some medi-gels, and I'm nearly level 10. If I hit max. Cloak and Alliance Training, I'm moving up to Silver and see how I do.

I got another wipe. Glacier Hazard/Cerberus, I died in W3, then another run-in grenade in W7, and I deemed it isn't worth to spend my second medigel on this match. Character progress here. The one RP I could afford yielded an Ops, Cobra, Targeting VI I, AR Stability Damper III and a Mantis IV.

Good luck! I don't remember getting the Gift Packs when I started though. Will watch this!

Oh, great question. I want to know also! I think in a way any Human kit may be treated as the same character with new training, not a team member?

^ You can reverse it back to X-Box style Triggers and Bumpers in the options screen.

When I started playing MEMP (1,000 hours ago) I spent a great deal of time on 'LolBronze' 

Hydra is not the best map to start solo-ing due to it's openness, which makes device hacking quite the challenge.  You could try Giant (the easiest, imo) or White. 

The OP is an elite PS3 player who has solo-ed more than once platinum (AFAIK he's in the platinum Hall of Fame). And if you read his post you'll see he did not manage to finish the solo exactly because it was Hydra/Cerberus.
After that he goes for the safe option (Giant/Reaper) and he succeeds.
