The polar bear

We shouldn't forget that the Tevinter Imperium is a very large place and, whilst the writers do sometimes seem unsure just how big Thedas is meant to be when writing dialogue, etc, it seems likely that it encompasses several different climates and vegetation types according to the region we are in.

Dorian came originally from Qarinus (Ventus), which is in the north-east and reasonably close to Seheron, which is said to be predominantly jungle. However, it is on the same latitude and fairly close to Arlathan Forest, which came across in the descriptions in Tevinter Nights as warm temperate. So northern Indian or southern Mediterranean would both be appropriate. The north western side of Tevinter is probably influenced by its close proximity to the Anderfels. The latter would seem to be a hot desert climate, although that only became the case after successive blights have rendered it permanently devoid of much life, so it is possible that it was once more savanna like. As I've said before, the area over towards the Hunterhorn Mountains could have snow even in summer if the altitude is high enough, which is why the concept art showing snowy mountains could well be over there. I think the middle of Tevinter, particularly around the southern coast of the Nocen Sea, would likely have a northern Mediterranean climate, whilst further south, towards the Silent Plains is probably desert once again. The region bordering Nevarra is likely to be fairly similar to its southern neighbour; in other words warm in summer but cold in winter. Essentially there is plenty of scope in Tevinter for a variety of terrain, flora and fauna.
