I heavily support any and all polar bear inclusion, but we're going to tropical Tevinter. Tigers would make more sense.

Tigers would make more sense. We could have had tigers in southern Thedas as they aren't just found in the tropics. Also snow leopards, lynx and mountain lions. For some reason, though, they seem to have completely ignored the feline members of the animal kingdom, apart from domestic cats. It would make a change to have, say, dire lions, sabre tooth tigers or black panthers up in Tevinter, rather than the bears, wolves and desert foxes of the south, although the jungle tends to be found on Seheron and in the Donnorks to the north of the Anderfels. Also the Hunterhorn Mountains are snow capped, so may be we could have some snow bears, snow tigers and snow leopards there.

We know that Tevinter originally bred the mabari, so there could be any number of intelligent magical animals. Come to think of it, the Archon is also said to favour cats. May be his cats aren't the small, fluffy variety but large, intelligent feline equivalent of mabari.

I still have enough trauma from accidentally murdering countless cute fennecs, please don't make me kill felines too. I objected to killing mamma bears too. In fact, if we accept the reason for the undue aggressiveness of the local fauna was due to the breach and countless lesser rifts burping out demons, then none of the creatures attacking us deserved to die. What I started to do was deliberately try and get through an area without killing anything, whether it be large bears on the Storm Coast or small fennecs in the desert regions. I have to admit, though, the latter didn't make it easy because for some reason humanoids engaging in battle, particularly when they are using magic, wasn't sufficient to make any self respecting fennec run a mile in the opposite direction. If we did accidentally hit one, why couldn't we also heal them? Anyway, I agree with Legbamel, it would be cool to have a friendly panther or tiger as an ally instead of a mabari.

Tevinter is considered warmer? Well, considering Maevaris described Dorian as a hot house flower, he moaned continually about the weather and cold in DAI, and in Trespasser (to a hostile Inquisitor) described the south as a "freezing shit-hole, I'd say "Yes"

Yep. Thedas is in the southern hemisphere of their planet (assuming their planet is oriented the same way Earth is), so south equals colder.

Tevinter is considered warmer? England vs. Greece, going by their cultural equivalents. I feel it's a stretch to think of it as "tropical" as someone described it above, but it's certainly not as cold and wet as Ferelden.

Dorian made me imagine (Northern) India, but with a Latin Roman cultural influence and... unique architecture and loving "spiky" fashion. Greece could work, too, though, as there are some Byzantine parallels (aging empire, past its days of "glory"). The "Imperial Roman with Latinesque names speaking with a Posh British accent, yet looking like they're from the Indian Subcontinent", made me draw (favorable) parallels to how Pillars of Eternity handles ethnicity and "racial" origins of various human regional groups.

Dorian made me imagine (Northern) India, but with a Latin Roman cultural influence and... unique architecture and loving "spiky" fashion. Greece could work, too, though, as there are some Byzantine parallels (aging empire, past its days of "glory"). We shouldn't forget that the Tevinter Imperium is a very large place and, whilst the writers do sometimes seem unsure just how big Thedas is meant to be when writing dialogue, etc, it seems likely that it encompasses several different climates and vegetation types according to the region we are in. Dorian came originally from Qarinus (Ventus), which is in the north-east and reasonably close to Seheron, which is said to be predominantly jungle. However, it is on the same latitude and fairly close to Arlathan Forest, which came across in the descriptions in Tevinter Nights as warm temperate. So northern Indian or southern Mediterranean would both be appropriate. The north western side of Tevinter is probably influenced by its close proximity to the Anderfels. The latter would seem to be a hot desert climate, although that only became the case after successive blights have rendered it permanently devoid of much life, so it is possible that it was once more savanna like. As I've said before, the area over towards the Hunterhorn Mountains could have snow even in summer if the altitude is high enough, which is why the concept art showing snowy mountains could well be over there. I think the middle of Tevinter, particularly around the southern coast of the Nocen Sea, would likely have a northern Mediterranean climate, whilst further south, towards the Silent Plains is probably desert once again. The region bordering Nevarra is likely to be fairly similar to its southern neighbour; in other words warm in summer but cold in winter. Essentially there is plenty of scope in Tevinter for a variety of terrain, flora and fauna.
