baun baundiesel I know you're out of the loop now but do you think rumors that the next Mass Effect full production can't/won't start until after DA4 releases seem reasonable?
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah Almost definitely true. For both to be in production at the same time would require EA to let them hire a bunch of people. Which is unlikely to say the least
So if you thought the 9-10 year wait between DA games was bad, just wait until the at least 13 year wait between ME games.
I remember Mark talked a little about this on his channel before this. BW today can handle 1 (major) game in production at a time.
Though BW is a leaner studio now than it was 10+ years ago. I'd have to look, but they're around 1/2 the size they were at their peak. Not factoring in outsourcing ofc.
Now add to that the ever-increasing resources required in AAA development space, and... that's where we're at.
I'm hoping it won't be 13 years between Andromeda & ME5, but I suspect it won't be that far off either (10-11 years?). Hopefully pre-production goes well and the move back to Unreal isn't too big a headache. That may pay dividends for the devs down the line, and I hope they were able to negotiate a sweetheart licensing deal.
Mark just released a pretty interesting video on video game company acquisitions and mergers.
He spends a fair bit of time discussing EA and what large companies might be looking for in an acq/merger and the potential fallout.
For example, say Disney did acquire EA...
1. Would Disney be interested in continuing Mass Effect when it has Star Wars?
2. Would they even be interested in creating M-Rated games, which could impact Dragon Age as well?
Mark also went on a bit of a tangent with Elon Musk (who loves ME). He could conceivably pry away the ME license from EA, buy a smaller studio (like Humanhead), then control the IP for... relatively cheap.

I'm ok with waiting IF it means better quality instead of rushing. But of course, having to wait a long time these days is due to various issues with development and not because they want to create a perfect game.
Hmmm. Do we want ME with Elon Musk influencing it?
If I can Renegade interrupt Musk in the middle of some blathering he is doing, and Omni-Blade his head off, then yes please more Elon Mush in Mass Effect.
I was just given a friendly heads-up that after June 12, EA will be removing game extras from their servers such as wallpapers, soundtracks, and art books for a number of games, including (but not limited to):
Anthem Dragon Age Origins Dragon Age 2 Dragon Age Inquisition Jade Empire Special Edition Mass Effect 2 Mass Effect 3 Mass Effect Andromeda
I don't know if they will be available elsewhere after that date, but I think it's a good idea to d/l them and save them off somewhere (if you haven't already).

Interesting... hopefully Disney don't.
Also his whole bit about how parent company culture seeps in through the cracks regardless, very much made me think of Bioware in the years since EA.
baun baundiesel Tease us with your next game as an acronym.👀
