Where any books based in the world of the Mass Effect series ever published? Long time ago I bought a collection of books based in the world of the Dragon Age series.

There were several
Mass Effect Revelation: a prequel to the first Mass Effect, follows the story of Anderson and Saren Mass Effect Ascension: set a few months after the first game (referenced by Tali when you meet her on Freedom's Progress in ME2), follows the story of biotic prodigy Gillian Grayson while she's being chased by Cerberus, in her travel's she's aided by Kahlee Sanders Mass Effect Retribution: set a few months after Mass Effect 2, follows Cerberus using experiments with Reaper tech on a man called Paul Grayson (also adoptive father of Gillian from the previous book) and lastly Mass Effect Deception: set a few months after the former book, once again follows Gillian Grayson, this time her being in search of the people who killed her father
You should still be able to buy them if you're interested in them

Mass Effect Deception is a mess of a story and ignores much of the games and previous novels lore. I would recommend reading the others though.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll definitely see if I can find these in a bundle, like I did with the Dragon Age books.

The novels (I only read the first three, not the fourth and final one which is terrible by all accounts) have good stories and characters, though the actual writing is middling. I still really enjoyed them, while keeping the editor part of my brain on a leash. A lot of stuff is clunky, then there are codexy info dumps that interrupt things even more.
In a way that makes sense because when you're writing a video game you only are writing story and dialogue, really; you might have concepts for how things will look and move, but ultimately those are handled by other teams.
I've read a fair few of the comics and on the whole those seem to be higher quality.

My favorites were definitely Ascension and Retribution. They give a little background on Cerberus and Kai Leng. As other have said though, the fourth book was crap. I couldn't even get through it because of the inaccuracies in lore.

I despise giving Jeff Bezos more of my money but I bought 5 Dragon Age books in a bundle for a low price from there. Plus the one to two day shipping!

I couldn't even get through it because of the inaccuracies in lore. To me, that's reason enough to not want to read, though I did, but only after I'd played the entire trilogy. I'd love it if we could just cut him out of the books and the game. He's probably the lamest character in the entire series. The dude walks around with a sword even though an omni-blade can stop it. He is nearly beaten by a dying Thane. He needs a freaking gunship to protect him while recharging his shields. That makes him a weak character but they pretend he's a badass. The best scene with Kai Leng is when Shepard breaks his sword and shoves an omni-blade into his chest. I can't believe TIM thought he was a worthwhile adversary for Shepard. Or the writers, for that matter. Mass Effect Retrospective 46: Kai LengSorry to get off your point but I hate that guy so much. I don't hate him because he's the bad guy. I hate him because he was incredibly, badly written. I'd personally recommend avoiding anything with him in it. Unfortunately, he's in ME3.

Kai Leng was actually a pretty cool antagonist in Retribution. He's a very different character in the book, no space ninja bullshit or constant trolling or any of that stuff. It's only the game that ruined him (well, and then there was Deception but we don't talk about that. )
As for the books, I also really like Revelation. I read it just before I started ME1 and it was a really cool introduction to the universe. I liked the more "wild west" feel of the 2160s. Young Andreson was a cool protagonist and the book is the only instance of a depiction of actually competent politicians (both on the council side and the human side) in the entire ME universe to date.
