So for giggles I was visiting a luxury home theater design website and for the seating it had a "Build Your Own" feature, so for fun I thought I would try that.....It behaved not unlike the "Build & Price" features on any car website, and it was the only tab/page I had open. But within seconds I notice that my CPU is revving up and the temps go from idling at 28 to 30 degrees C to 75 C in about 5 seconds flat, and the longer I am on this site the temperature bounces up and down from the 60s up to 75 C, which are temps that scare me. I don't like to see my CPU go anything above 45 to be honest, because even when I am gaming it never goes above 42 C.
I checked Task Manager and even though Only had 1 page in Edge open.....Task manager showed that I had 22 pages....Or at least 22 Processes (all related to MS Edge) all running.
Then as soon as I closed Edge it cooled right back down to 30 and stayed there totally idle.
Any thoughts on why this would happen, or if those temperates spikes were normal and safe? When my CPU throttles like that and I see the temps increase to such high levels...I worry. Even though I know that one completely normal and absolutely safe process in which that will happen is a Full System Virus Scan because it is an intense process. And I also know that the 10900K series is a hot bugger, so warmer than normal, warmer than other models...is to be expected and to be considered well within tolerence.
But still that is perplexing. The only thing I can think of is that for some reason Edge was eating up a lot of the resources.....

I typically have CPU temps of 50-65 when gaming, depending on the game. AC Odyssey runs hot for some reason. Chrome makes my CPU temps bounce around quite a bit, though never that high.

I typically have CPU temps of 50-65 when gaming, depending on the game. AC Odyssey runs hot for some reason. Chrome makes my CPU temps bounce around quite a bit, though never that high. My 10900KF generally idles between 28 and 32 degrees C even in hot summer weather (and I don't have any insulation in my walls....so in the summer, my room is like a boiler room, and in the winter it's a meat locker. In any given tempertature there is easily a 10 to 12 degree difference in temperature from my room to the main floor of the house)....But even when I'm gaming for a few hours it never goes beyond 42 to 45 C. The ONLY time I'v ever seen it go higher is when I am running a full virus scan during which time it continuously bounces from the 60s to the mid 70s but for mere seconds on each. Then the instant the scan is done, it goes right back down between 28 to 32 Celcius. For 98% of the time those high 20s to low 30s are my temps. The Cooler I have is the Corsair iCue H115i RGB Pro XT 280 mm AIO Liquid cooler (top mounted). The Case I have is the Cooler Master H500M ( 2x huge 200/200 mm fans on the Front and a single 140mm on the rear of the case for exhaust) Plus the radiator fans on the top for additional exhaust. My internal Sytem temperature rarely goes above 40 degrees because of all the cool, clean air being constantly circulated and pushed through the system. Moreover, the case is big enough that there is a ton of clean space for good air flow; none of the components are cramped causing an excess of warm/hot air that isn't moving and just sitting there. I find that happens with smaller cases especially when you have larger hardware. No room for air to circulate. But with this case, good circulation and ventilation are just some of the highlights. The only downer...if I had to pick one would be the weight. Even empty this case is heavy because of the glass.

Sounds weird. Just don't visit sites that demand so heavy load services from your web engine. Because whether it's just a bug, incompetence or lack of care, there is still something wrong.

Yeah, I thought so too, Hieronymus, as I've never had that happen before. In any case, I've made a mental note of it. Thanks for the post, buddy! Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to you!

It's perfectly normal. Don't worry about it.
I've been telling you guys that modern CPUs are designed to boost as much as thermal limit and power limit allow them to.
Don't be alert when you see high CPU temperatures like 70-80C for a couple seconds with a modern CPU like the 10/11/12th Gen Intel and 5000-series AMD Ryzen. You only have to worry if those temperatures stay there and don't come back down.
