How do you like to watch shows? All at once, binging?
***
Ive asked myself this and I still don’t have an answer. It’s part of why I’m making this post actually. I would’ve easily said All at Once in my 20’s but that’s changed now that I’ve had a good taste of it. I like both, but I have a lot more appreciation for the weekly schedule than I did before. For some shows I love talking about them, the weekly release promotes that.
Now the networks seem to be experimenting with a quick release of the first three (or so) episodes, then swapping to weekly. I like this too, if they use the early episodes well and set something up. I don’t really want three random episodes dumped just because though.
Arcane released in three three-episode chapters, nine total. I liked that release too, felt a bit different but worked for it. That first arc ending was amazing which served the format well.
And finally, maybe each show should just release depending how it’s written.

I did not quite understand some of the choices but then again I am a totally out of touch with modern tv viewing these days. I am still a dinosaur that just has cable and has never had any streaming services. Which is too bad because there are actually a fair number of shows i'd like to see but they are always exclusive to some tv service.
As for the question I like it just week by week, one episode per week that I can plan around.

I am still a dinosaur that just has cable and has never had any streaming services. Which is too bad because there are actually a fair number of shows i'd like to see but they are always exclusive to some tv service. As for the question I like it just week by week, one episode per week that I can plan around. Some shows have released the first three episodes at once, then switch to a weekly schedule. You get a cohesive start, I can see the appeal. Unfortunately the show I watched executed it terribly. (Invasion, I don’t recommend it.) Kind of similar to starting a series off like the BSG reboot, with a miniseries. Gives a good foundation to build off of. Others have released three episodes, then three more, then the final three, each week until it finished. Each three episodes were the same story but kind of had their own arc. It worked quite well. (Arcane on Netflix is the show I’m referencing in this case.) *** Mostly what I do is rotate a single streaming service each month. Sometimes I’ll use a guest account for various ones too, notably Netflix, when I want to watch a couple different shows. Canada can be a real shitshow trying to get some streaming shows though. Our telecom overlords can be real shady pricks.

While it can differ if a show is really, really good (or really, really bad), I prefer “a few to start, then weekly”. Three is a good number. Time enough for slow starters (which a lot of “prestige tv” shows can be) to open up their narrative and hook you.
Second option would be “all at once”, but that’s probably not a starter for the bigger budget shows as they need to stretch out subscriptions for those on the cusp.

Weekly, it gives me something to look forward to every single week (preferably weekends) and I like the pacing. Binging is not my style.

I voted "all at once", not that it matters much. Seeing as I don't watch many television shows, and all episodes are usually out by the time I get around to watching a show, regardless of release schedule. The fam turned Game of Thrones seasons 5 through 7 into an event, which was fun. So weekly definitely has it pros. Babies derailed season 8 viewing, which worked out as I didn't wanna watch season 8 anyway. Haha. Kawhi hitting a hilarious buzzer beater to end game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semi Final beats Game of Thrones any day! Made a GIF to commemorate. Canada can be a real shitshow trying to get some streaming shows though. Our telecom overlords can be real shady pricks. Haha. And its not getting any better with Rogers in the process of buying Shaw for 26 billion. Antitrust laws? What are those???!!

Depends on the show. In some shows that are about 30 minutes or there about the whole season to binge is not a bad way to spend an a weekend and if it's a great show like Transformers: Earthspark do it again. The hour long shows depends on the show, how many episodes and how compelling it is. I binged the entire series of the 2004 version of Battlestar Galactica because it's gripping.
Some shows and platforms need to stop breaking up seasons of shows into 2 parts to drag them out like how Nickelodeon (and maybe Paramount+) is breaking up the first season of Star Trek: Prodigy which is supposed to have 20 episodes into 3 or 4 parts containing about 5 episodes each. That is just annoying and stupid.
