I was watching this playthrough of ME1 on Youtube, and she left the Mako behind on Virmire, I made a similar mistake after speaking to Vigil on Ilos. After speaking to vigil once I passed the forcefield. The passage seemed too narrow. I thought the Mako would not be able to squeeze through. So I jumped off the ledge and proceeded on foot. After 10 minutes of play I realized it was taking too long, so I opened the map and saw I not even halfway through yet. So I started thinking was I supposed to bring the Mako? Luckily I had made a hard save before jumping off the ledge. So I reloaded and was able to complete the objective quickly.
Here's the playthrough I mentioned:

Lol definitely would not make it through the conduit on foot. Has anyone tried to take down a Thresher Maw on foot in ME1?

Lol definitely would not make it through the conduit on foot. Has anyone tried to take down a Thresher Maw on foot in ME1? I know someone on these forums said they tried, but failed to do it. I attempted it once, but the new Threher Maw mechanics kind of prevent you from doing it in my opinion. I may try later with another Shepard. The issue is the phase where a bunch of tentacles spawn and the Thresher Maw chases you until it gets too close to you and pops up or you destroy all the tentacles. (This can happen multiple times in a fight). In that case, you would need to stick close to the Mako so you can survive, or you would probably need to be Soldier or Infiltrator with Immunity.

I did manage to take down a Collossus or 2 on foot before on Virmire though tried to do it that wa ybecause at the time the Mako was heavil ydamaged from being blasted at and I didn' t have any omnigel to repair it so went on foot to take them down and spare the Mako as I didn' t wantto waste time waiting for the shields to recharge. Thankfully it worked though. I don't think I'd evre have to take that risk on the remaster given they recharge quicker.

Best to wait until later in the game when you have better equipment to do more damage and have better cooldowns. Here is an example of me doing with a Soldier in NG+:
I do want to give it a serious attempt in the Legendary Edition to see how that goes. Maybe on NG+.

Killing a Thresher Maw on foot is doable in classic ME1. It was even easier than with Mako for me. Did it with every class. Didn't tried in LE, but I assume it will bi trickier with all those tentacles.

Killing a Thresher Maw on foot is doable in classic ME1. It was even easier than with Mako for me. Did it with every class. Didn't tried in LE, but I assume it will bi trickier with all those tentacles. In classic ME1, once the Thresher Maw pops out, you can stay in that one spot with the Mako and just jump over the acid spit. If you do not move (on the ground) after the Maw pops out, it stays in the same spot it popped out, so you can just shoot and jump. Fairly easy. Towards the end of the game, once you get good equipment and your cooldowns are not trash, you can kill it quicker outside the Mako since you can pump out more damage than the Mako. Also, Soldier and Infiltrator with Immunity can tank a melee hit from the Thresher Maw, unlike the Mako. In the Legendary Edition, the Thresher Maws appear to move at set time or damage intervals. This is not a big deal, as they will not attack you until they pop back up; I do not think they will actually pop up directly under you, so that should be fine. The tentacles part is where it will get tricky as the Thresher Maw will chase you (from underground) until you either kill all the tentacles or it gets close enough to you; it gets close enough it will pop up. It can hit/damage the Mako when it pops up. On foot, you probably cannot survive that hit unless you are a Soldier or Infiltrator with Immunity, but I cannot be sure as I have not tried it yet.

Tried again last night to take out a Thresher Maw on foot in the Legendary Edition. I was a low-level Soldier, as I had made a beeline right for control of the Normandy, then straight to Edolus. I dropped the difficulty down to Normal. I was a Soldier and had enough points to get Basic Immunity. (Enough points for Advanced Marksman, Basic Adrenaline Burst, and Basic Immunity, 1 point into Soldier for a health regen bonus). Basic Immunity in the Legendary Edition provides 75% damage protection. On Normal, that was not enough to avoid death from the Thresher Maw popping up from underneath me. As suspected, the phase where the tentacles pop up and the Thresher Maw chases you proved impossible on Normal, as you cannot avoid the Thresher Maw popping up from underneath you. I would like to try it again with a late-game Soldier Shepard when I can get Master Immunity + Shock Trooper + max Heavy Armor for maximum damage protection and see if I can survive. I can maybe try with NG+ with an existing Soldier Shepard I have, but since that overwrites my existing Soldier save in ME1, I am not sure I want to do that. I may play the existing Soldier I used to late game (which would take 20+ hours) and try again. But I really do not feel like doing that right now. So it may be months down the line before I try again.

Luckily I had a save from before I left the Mako. Yeah even when I first played ME1 I jumped straight back in the Mako after my little chat with Vigil I didn't know how much further I had to go though but I figured given how powerfulthe Mako was and the fact there was likel ygoing t obe more Geth between me and the Conduit it made sense to stick with using it while the option remained open.

I had Legendary Edition thresher maws pop up directly under the Mako multiple times I did on the originals ended up dying t othem more times than I can count because of it. Thankfully now that we can track them in the LE it becomes easier to avoid that. Besides I'm always cautious when entering a big open area on the map as I know there's a chance a thresher maw can pop out. Once I've seen them I know what I'm doing. Can' tden ythough I'd hav eloved to have fed Sovereign to one of them. Especially after seeing what Kalros did.

Yeah the good news is that if there aer any to take on it's in those open areas as that's kind of where they live. So that's the time to be aware if there are any targets in any wide open areas. I often also hit save when I know I'm going through one just in case I get blindsided.

I can't believe some player's actually did this. I'm not the most observant player, or even the most observant person in real life, but this foolishness is even beyond my level ignorance.
