So I finally finished DAO and got to play shiny new Legendary Edition! Yay!
...and then I found out I have no idea how to disable my controller in the game. I mean, sure, I can plug it out, but I keep my HOTAS permanently plugged because I like it that way (and because to replug it, I need to go to the back of my PC, and I don't want to be doing that on a regular basis - partially because Il-2 Sturmovik is about as user friendly on control setup as diarrhea).
In the end, I have my reasons to want both my HOTAS plugged while I play... and play with KB/M because that's how I always played literally any shooter in existence (also, you try playing a shooter with a flight stick... They're not nearly as good at that stuff as proper console-style controllers, mostly due to their specialisation on flying)
Does anyone know if there's a setting I missed somewhere that allows me to do this and avoid minor annoyances?

That is not entirely helpful. Right now, I have a cable management that is just about good enough, with only the cables that NEED to protrude doing so. Those being my headphones, and the flight stick itself, as that goes on my lap when I fly. The throttle, keyboard, mouse, monitor, basically everything, is neatly out of the way, and I'm not inclined to start cramming USBs in the front of my PC for permanent or semi-permanent use. That's where external drives, stick drives and short-term use items go. The HOTAS has been permanently plugged for over six months now, and this is the first time I actually had any problem with it in that time.

Yeah same here don't really have a flight stick though but then I don't play flight simulators. Stuff like monitor keyboartd mouse and stuff tha tI usre touse the PC are permanantl yplugged in a tthe back. The USB's a tthe front of m ysystem are interchangeable a sI use them for headphones controllers also the external and stick drives as well. Bu tthat's mainl yvecause the wires on m yexternasl drives aren' tvery long. So it makes sense for me tou se them ther soI can reach the drive when I'm installing something. Same with the flash drives really.

Yeah... considering there seem to be no alternatives, I'll just be mildly annoyed and go enjoy ME in all it's glory. Right after I unplug two USBs...

I have my controller always pugged in as well and didn't have any issues in MELE; can change between KB+M and controller on the fly. Controller don't interfere with my game if I don't touch it. What is exact issue you have? PS: Toggling controller is so rare nowadays.

DAO and Legendary?
Sorry, I have finished DAO, and as a result I finally had an opening for an RPG, so I installed my Christmas present of ME Legendary Edition.

True. Maybe I just haven't invested enough effort into finding a good solution. I have also asked on the ME5e (5e DnD for Mass Effect) Discord, and their suggestion didn't really net any results for me.
At this point, I've just elected to unplug the stick. Sure, it's a pain, and I have at one point in my past decided to just flat out not play a game over this exact pain, but this is Mass Effect. It's worth it. And if I couldn't find an alternative that I could use... I'm not going to throw a hissy fit over an inconvenience like that.

At this point, I've just elected to unplug the stick. Sure, it's a pain You can always get extension cord, with good cable management it will be much easier.
