It's getting somewhat frustrating.
I personally had problems with Origin. It's a bit frustrating how much processing time it consumes, how long it takes to start and delays the start of the games I want to play. Now "Dragon Age: Inquisition" suddenly ceased to work on my computer because it messed up something with the license and it can't find the DLL for the MS Visual C++ 2010 Runtime anymore, even though it is very well installed. In Mass Effect 2 (which was not installed via Origin) I suddenly get a message that it cannot connect to the server whenever I start the game and I have an additional delay of about a minute before it does anything properly.
The latest news is that a set of countries have been blocked from Origin access due to some US embargos or something, with the consequence that folks can't even play the games they already bought anymore.
If that goes in this fashion I don't see myself paying eighty bucks for a special edition of a game, no matter how much I anticipate it, if I can't be sure whether and when I get to play it at all.
It's understandable that EA wants to protect their rights, but if they take my money they better have something better to show for than "maybe" I get to play this game. And it better still works five years after the release, not just for the few months when the sales are good.

And it better still works five years after the release, not just for the few months when the sales are good. This is a problem I had with ME2 long before Origin was introduced. As for Origin blocking certain countries, as far as I understand EA is currently looking into fixing this issue.

Origin and Uplay get so much hate and for no reason. Companies just want a share of the market controlled by Steam. Yeah it would be simpler if Steam had access to EA games as well - and Steam is a better client than Origin, but i use the EA client for more than 02 years now and never had any problem with it. Finally, the block in some countries is not EA's fault, but consequence of a trade embargo opposed by the USA

The original reason why Steam has fallen a bit into disgrace was because they performed very extensive scans of the user's hard disc whenever it ran and communicated the results back to EA. They claimed that it was all about ensuring there was non cheating but the files they looked at had nothing in the slightest to do with their games - such as Thunderbird's Email databases. I believe that was merely a bit of bad programming, they only wanted to know what games you have on your computer to profile you, but that was clearly a bit out of the line. Origin was stamped spyware, and while this may be a bit exaggerated it was not without reason.
The problem here is that Origin, as opposed to Steam, requires you to to be connected to its servers. You would not be able to install a game on a new computer with Steam if it was blocked, which is bad enough, but at least you could play it if it already is installed. It seems strange that you never had issues with Origin ... last Saturday afternoon the servers were unavailable to me - not for very long, half an hour, I suppose, but when I click on the icon for a game I want to play it.
You never had any problem starting a game because Origin was unavailable at all?

Verify all the files on your computer before starting any game. Check the steam forums if you don't know what I'm talking about. This also goes for Origin, just look at the menus and it's there, somewhere. And also ... Fixed and this.

Ehhh, it's not so horrible once you get used to it. It's better than clicking on something, scrolling over "Play now!" just in time to have it disappear and then you have to start the whole process over. It is unnecessary, though. I'd much rather have them working on a SS system where we can take SS's, u/l them to the cloud, share them, and then use them as our wallpapers.

I attributed the event as a maintenance issue.
Speaking of Origin, I'm not a fan of the latest update that brings Origin back in your face advertising after quitting ME3MP.

I just get a message saying that it's offline and some features may be disabled. Doesn't seem to affect anything in SP aside from the golden nug.

The new Origin UI is possibly the worst interface I've used. Thank you, yes! It is a grotesque pain in the ass. I hadn't used it since last year, when I had the sudden urge a couple weeks ago to replay DA2. Imagine my surprise when it updated and I first saw that hot mess. I also like that it doesn't update my playing time until I restart it, if it does it at all. Having the chat list cover up the game info is also extraordinarily helpful. The best part of the new Origin, though, is how about 2/3 of the time the game screen gets the dreaded infinite spinny loading symbol, and the only way to get Origin working again is to restart it. Really adds to the user experience. So before this month I would have said yes, I don't get all of the Origin hate, it's quite serviceable. Now though, it's broken pile of shit. Not just "I don't like it," actually broken.
