Just something that caught my interest. I’m into Warframe and they’re now working on a fantasy action MMO (hopefully with as solid cinematic story quests as Warframe has gotten), said to be inspired by Studio Ghibli films like Princess Mononoke www.soulframe.com/Curious if anyone else got interested. Apparently development is just now ramping up or getting started, so it’ll be awhile.

The inspiration is a good start. That alone strikes interest.
MMO so likely not my cup of tea, but I have mostly heard good things about Warframe so hopefully it pans out well.

The grind in Warframe borders on being obnoxious TBH. But F2P game with a cash shop so that's expected. Otherwise it's quite fun. Will keep an eye on it but definitely a wait and see for me

The tutorial they added into the game is good for the basics, but when you get beyond that you can easily be lost and that will cost them new players/purchases.

I tried getting into Warframe, at the suggestion of this forum, many years ago. Maybe during the first death of ME3MP (lol). Already, that game had secrets and metas. I was lost, stuff was weird, and I realized that MP just wasn't my bag and never would be. I have said these words here before but they bear repeating - ME3MP is lightning in a bottle.

Mainly since Warframe is a sort of a ramshackle construction with a ton of game modes and features that have been added on over the years and some abandoned. I think they’d need to totally overhaul a lot of the early game to “fix” these issues. I drop in periodically to play the newest content and new story quests (which are quite good as MMOs go) but I can’t possibly do all the grinding. Thankfully, they keep the story quests accessible to most players so little grind is required to do those. My understanding so far is that with Soulframe they want to take the lessons learned over a decade of trial and error development on Warframe without having to carry the baggage of that development. We’ll have to wait and see how that works out.

My understanding so far is that with Soulframe they want to take the lessons learned over a decade of trial and error development on Warframe without having to carry the baggage of that development. We’ll have to wait and see how that works out. I think having a barrier for new players is inevitable unless an approach is taken when new content is added. Even with Warframe when they are adding new expansions now they were thinking of a new player coming into the lagging behind and attempt to figure out a good approach, but when I was playing they just kept only focused on the players they have now even if they knew there were problems for new players. A friend of mine played Warframe much longer then I did so he showed me where he got really frustrated. It was a planet they changed the gameplay significantly instead of being hordes of enemies there were only a handful, but each one was like a boss (I think the enemy level was triple his) and you had to kill enough to win the round to progress. He was stuck there and could never find another person to join. If the planet was off by itself and didn't prevent going to other planets I don't think he would have been nearly as annoyed because it prevented him from going to other planets in the game. I cannot remember the name of the planet for it was three or four years ago.
