Welcome to the place where we can discuss the awesomeness of one… James… Veeeega! The funny, loyal meathead with a big mouth and an even bigger heart - what’s not to like? Did you guys like him from the start? Did you hate him and now like him? Do you still hate him? Any stories are welcome here, and… maybe I should just start For me James was a little weird at first because he acted so sassy, but when he started to call my Shepard "Loco", he had me. I started to really like him, and came to truly appreciate him later on when I took him everywhere. I was rolling a FemShep who enjoyed his flirting a little too much (and yes, that means I hooked up with him in the most disgraceful way in the Citadel DLC, but it fit my Shepard. Don’t judge ). In order to get a better grip on this character I started a Youtube project last year, in which I try to get most of Vega’s dialogue with all squadmates on each mission. It’s still a WiP, but maybe you find the time to check it out, or this idea might encourage you to take James on missions. He’s very funny, especially with Javik. With this, I’ll leave one of the most hilarious scenes in ME3 (starts at 0:25)! James Vega, tech expert. www.youtube.com/enhance?v=WkYw_xxIGTgAnd to end this post… a few quotes of the man himself: James: Hey, Commander. You see that krogan female? Mh-mh-mh *shakes head* Shepard: Up close and personal. James: I think the males got the pretty gene.
Damn straight, Lola/Loco.
James: Stick with me, bud. I’m a party legend. Back in school, they called me "Party Vega." Cortez: Yeah, that's .. a little lame. James: I ran with a simple crowd.
Javik: Do not fear the weapon. Fear the one wielding it. James: That's what I love about you, buggy. You're like Sun Tzu with more eyes.
James: Did the asari plant these explosives, or did they mess up and die out here? Javik: We'll soon see. James: You're not worried? Javik: While the Reaper soldiers are dying, I am content. James: Huh. You lucky bastard.
James: I don't know the scientific measurement of shitload, but that seemed like a shitload of Harvesters.
Hey pendejos! Our Shepard's better than yours! Traynor: And someone just threw me off the ship! If it wasn't you... James: Cerberus cloned Shepard. It's uh... Yeah, that's all I got.

Always liked James. He was funny, and more insightful than he seemed. He reminds me of my brother, that kind of guy who doesn't sound like he's a deep thinker but it turns out he's got people pegged a lot more accurately than they even know themselves.

Well, I still love Garrus. I love how everything worked out with my Shep and him. Though, if Jimmy had been available, I would've created a whole new Shep for him. So infuriating to see him flirting and getting it on with Ashley when he would clearly tell me I was hot stuff, but wasn't interested in me. And I know what happens if you pursue him at the party..... creepy predator femshep.

Yeah, it would've been nice to have a proper romance, or even the cut dialogue between the two at the FOB where they talk about their flirting. Aw. In case you don't know it yet: J: It's been an honor serving with you, Shepard. S: I think we both know it's been more than that. J: Yeah... I just. S: You're a good man and a terrific soldier. Whatever happens... I'm glad I got to know you, James. J: That means a lot to me. You mean a lot to me. I do hope there's a similar tough nut to crack in MEA

I mean......if Kaidan died on Virmire in ME1, and Femshep romanced Jacob or Thane in ME2, there's only females left for Femshep in ME3. I mean, you could stay faithful to Thane after his death, but how depressing. Jimmy would've been the PERFECT guy for my non-Garrus Femshep. (Kaidan always dies! Death to Kaidan!) It just seems like Femshep only gets shot down in ME3 by everyone until she decides to be bisexual in order to be with someone. Grrr.
Jimmy shoots her down, and Joker shoots her down. Two men I wanted to romance so badly.....that's why I'm so obsessed with Garrus. Love him to death, but had there been humans that would've been fun to romance, it would've been those boys.

James is a nice refreshing 'normal' character in the trilogy and it's hard to dislike him when he's got such a laid back attitude towards everything. He's a good balanced character in combat too (his inferno grenades are probably my go to power, especially facing against a cluster of enemies).
James is the only character that gives your fingers a workout with the pull-up challenge in the Citadel DLC. It's either a finger workout or cramp (I haven't decided yet as I only completed the pull-up section once ). The only negative concerning his character is he didn't get a full introduction from the get go. Favourite James moment would be when he saves Shepard in spectacular fashion in the Citadel DLC (when Wrex doesn't appear). Favourite funny moment is asking him to do anything technical and decides to use force instead.

That moment when he smashed his shuttle against the Cerberus one to stop that agent cemented him as part of the team. I wanted to praise him for that!

Heh, I actually liked he was so reserved and flustered, because I think that he did want Shepard, but he could not commit as he's taking his military career very seriously. Plus he worshipped Shepard and I think this is his main problem. That his hero AND commander is actually hitting on him. I thought he was overwhelmed and didn't really know how to handle it. That's why I guess he can easier hook up with Ash, there's not such a barrier between them. I mean, he flirts all the time because he thinks it's fun, but then he gets all coy when Shepard starts to ask him where this is all leading? Hmmmm I think that his writer Mac Walters stated something similar, that they scrapped the romance with James in the end because he was a military guy through and through. And it kinda, sadly, shows in the cut scene. Also, your last sentence made me laugh So true, ahaha.

Why did we need a romance for Allers? Kelly was already established and straight Femsheps could have had James to compensate for the loss of Thane and Jacob. I think it could have worked around the hero worship. James himself said that he could see Shepard as just like every other grunt during that conversation where you could buy a round of drinks for fellow marines.

I thought James was just another meathead at first. How wrong I was. I like how he's just a regular guy, kinda bashful, funny, caring..... So much of his appeal is down to his VA, Freddie Prinze Jr is fabulous and omg I want James so much. Was watching him in an episode of Bones the other day and was having simultaneous James and Iron Bull flashbacks. It was rather odd.

Give me a James romance over Allers any day. I often forget Allers exists.

I have to say that I enjoyed Vega so much that I wish he had been with us from the beginning. I made a femShep for him before we knew his LI status (she is forever alone *single tear*). But he was such an awesome bro to my manShep too. Vega+Garrus+Shep was my favorite team.

My first impression of James in Vancouver was: "I find this offering acceptable." Otherwise I didn't exactly know what to think immediately. He grew on me quite fast, however, since he cared so much about saving Earth. You could tell he was rather hotblooded at times, which is rather interesting, as well. Otherwise his honesty, kindness, and fun attitude won me over soon from the start. I love his comments during missions! I admit his flirting made me uncomfortable during my first playthrough, though. If I hadn't romanced anyone, it would have probably bothered me less. However, I already had a romance going and had Shepard committed, and I didn't know that James wasn't romanceable, so I was of course worried I might get ninjamanced. The forced flirting from Shepard's side, which we have no way of avoiding, therefore made me quite unhappy (and it was out of character for my Shep, who is otherwise a rather serious person). When I had her tell James that she did not wish for him to use nicknames (because she thought it was unprofessional), his bitter reaction stung a little. I thought, on the other hand, that it felt good to put him back in his place a bit and I still like the dynamic between them that way. They're still friends, but he doesn't call her nicknames at work at least. Even then, he still kept flirting with her (Jerk!) and eventually I finally realised he was just messing around and it's simply what he's like. Later I found out he wasn't romanceable at all which made me calm down about the whole issue. For the record, I was so guarded in large part because I simply didn't want my Shepard to become a cheat. I like James and if he had a romance arc, I'd make another Shepard and go for it, because otherwise I think he's rather a sweet and fun person and, as Shepard would say, a hell of a soldier. Some of his flirt lines make me want to punch his shoulder, especially when I tell him to stop, but still.

James was my Bro and my Boo! Well, my headcanon Boo, but that's okay! Some of my best romances have been headcaonon. Hahaha!
Ah, but he was a good Bro. Everytime he called me Lola, it just felt right. Thank you for recognizing my humanity. It would have been nice if someone commented on it. Like Garrus: "Wait, Shepard, did he just call you Lola?"
I took him everywhere because I liked his feedback and perspective on things. He was laid back, and a great tank.
I'll never forget the time when I was fighting my clone..lol, it sounds crazy even now..and I confess, that Bruja got me hemmed up a bit. The red stuff was closing in on my visuals. Then the clone tumbles forward a bit. I look up and it's James behind her kicking her ass! IIRC it was like an elbow punch. Or the butt of the rifle..with some elbow to the clone's skull.
I was like Brooooo! Thank you. I then proceeded to scrape my dignity up from off the floor; and skittered away to take some health.
