What would Mass Effect be like in a world where the Cold War and space race never ended?

Mass Effect was heavily inspired by 80s sci fi.

Star Wars, the original Battlestar Galactica, Blade Runner, and Star Trek were Mass Effect's influences.

In the "For All Mankind" timeline sci fi is more prominent in pop culture with movies like "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Star Wars" receiving more awards than our timeline.

But the creative mind behind Mass Effect, Casey Hudson was in the Canadian Air Cadets with aspirations of becoming a military pilot in the Canadian Air Force.

In the FAM TL Casey Hudson could be pretty well be a Canadian military pilot with the increased military spending in that TL and maybe perhaps even an astronaut in the Canadian space program flying alongside Chris Hadfield.

In the FAM TL what is Bioware's second big franchise of 2007-2012?

More games in the Star Wars KOTOR universe?

A Star Trek game?

Their cancelled espionage game? The Cold War is still on after all.

Their own "Space Opera" inspired by 80s sci fi?

If it is their own brand new original space adventure would it have more realistic concepts of space travel than OTL Mass Effect?

In the Mass Effect universe humanity discovers ancient alien technology on Mars and an alien portal orbiting Pluto that was originally thought to be one of Pluto's Moons because it was covered in ice.

Perhaps the continued space race would give society more faith in humanity developing their own technology and in this universe's big sci fi space adventure RPG video game rather than humanity discovering alien technology it is technology that humanity develops on it's own that allows us to become an interstellar civilization?

I can't imagine a world where Mass Effect didn't exist. ME did get me into sci fi in the first place but I can't help but be curious about how different things would be if we lived in a different world.
