I bought someone ME3 on Steam. I wonder if it's still possible to link it to Origin instead of EA though, as ppl with EA app don't seem to see friends from Origin...

Why would you not see friends using Origin? I recently installed EA app and I can see everyone that was on my friendslist before.
In any case... you can use Origin. The download might be more hidden than before but as far as I know it's still available.
Edit: I just saw that you were talking about Steam. I honestly have no idea since I don't understand why you'd buy something on Steam if you still need Origin to run it then. Not sure how it works for each individual title but on the Legendary Edition page Origin is mentioned as a required 3rd party app. In any case, Origin is just a client/launcher - in the end it's the EA account that matters.
