I miss disabling effects from DAO like crushing prison, ogre grab, and overwhelm.
I miss sneaking up on an enemy mage before he could cast crushing prison (just before Orsammar).
I miss using shield bash to free my companion from an ogre's grasp.
To me, the missing overwhelm features help make combat in DA2 and DAI more of a grind.
What does everyone else think?

I miss crushing prison + cone of cold = instant kill. That was my favorite/most used spell combo.

I have never found these skills to be very useful, especially in the more fast combat of DA2.

Ogres can grab and punch you in The Descent. You can use Shield Bash or another Stun skill to get them to let go.

What the evil one said.
But I do miss crushing prison. And especially the upgrade available in DA2, which let you rip the arms off Ogres like in the Destiny trailer.

To be honest, I'm a bit indifferent about it. Sure it was nice in DA:O & DA II but I don't feel like I'm missing out. But to think of it, maybe it's a good thing they didn't make it into DA:I. I feel like they could have really slowed the pace of combat. Not to mention, if it affected the pace of combat, perhaps you'd be fine with it for one playthrough but you'd completely tear your hair out after a fifth one

I play through DAO the most, it is the slowest combat pace among the three and is the one I finish with more pleasure. I occasionaly go "let's play DAO from origin to the end of Witch Hunt (including Awakening)", and it is the most pleasurable thing. While Inquisition with it's more "advanced" combat feels a torture from title screen to the Solas encounter in the end of Trespasser. I'd even play DAO in slow motion instead of DAI since no matter how slow DAO is it is still better than playing an action game like DAI where hit and miss depend on your actions and not your characters stats. I'd rather face 100 Archdemons on Nightmare in DAO than an enemy with a shield in Inquisition since in the first case I could just set up tactics and watch the magic happen while in the latter I would have to manually deal with the enemy shield than attack him on the ground or go behind his back... JESUS just writting it made me exhausted! Seriously, one fight in Inquisition, a nug in Haven, tires me more than the whole of DAO with DLCs, deadly serious. Nothing is worse than action gameplay, not even hell or the Void.

Nothing is worse than action gameplay, not even hell or the Void. Sorry I wasn't clear with what I meant to say! I meant to say that slow combat isn't something that could work with Inquisition. At least to me! As you said, it worked perfectly with DA:O and I enjoyed it as well! But if we were to keep Inquisition as it is without making changes and add the disabling effects, I feel the results would be a disaster. As for the gameplay of Inquisition well that's your opinion; I personnally quite enjoy to directly manage my party; it adds to my immersion ^^

I miss my healing spells. I loved role playing a healer. Plus healing is what got me into playing a mage on DA in the first place since I enjoyed playing one on MMOs.
Aside from healing my all time favorite was the Force Mage set. Hubby said Rift mage was similar but I'll stick with my Knight Enchanter. OMG and Spirit Healer <hugs it>.
As for combat, DAO or DA2 was better then DAI. At least in those two games you needed some sort of strategy and keep an eye on your party health. In DAI its....drop a barrier...in three seconds every enemy dies...repeat. Dull and uneventful.

I miss my warrior being able to wade into combat with a sword in each hand.
I miss being able to summon skeletons, bears, or other pets to aid us.
I miss not needing a flowchart to figure out what combos trigger what effects.
I miss stealth
I miss having a mage who can stay back and just buff/heal the party.
