MAGA!Make Asari Great Again Opinions certainly will differ on that one, but I'd like Asari to follow the trope of hot alien babes or at least of a mysterious race of fairly attractive alien amazons a bit closer.

Sometimes you just need hot babes.
But honestly I find Peebee quite beautiful, it's just the wonky animations giving her weird faces. And that idiotic tattoo over her eyes makes anyone look ridiculous. With the right mods she's so pretty except when animators decided to contort her face into the weirdest expressions.

I think the animations are more of a fact that the change into CI pipeline happened at the end of the developement, where they had to change 3D animation software package to one new FrostBite supported. The previous support was dropped, where the work was done. Now dont hit me, I'm just a messenger, this is what I've heard/read back in the day. Anyway, I dont think all of the Asari ever were beautiful babes, there were few with Liara but most of NPC look quite.. awful in OT, when in Andromeda they look actually good but just the same in case of Asari. LE added massive amount of black eye make-up to everyone to hide the fact there is no realtime shading going on. For Art, I really hope they just keep the arc and keep on doing what Syd Mead had done - and it seems like that at least in Andromeda they continued it.

Peebee is clearly made somewhat unsightly by design - her tattoo, her clothing, her manners are quite an opposite to what we are used to coming from Asari. I have a suspicion she was made at first to play a role of an "ugly duckling" of sorts who then later would grow into a beautiful swan, so to say. But we got a bit too much of the duckling and most certainly hardly anything of the swan.

Asari in ME1 and also 2 had a certain aura of mystery, grace, dignity that somehow got lost in later ME installments. We had Benezia, The Consort, Shiala, Asari Ambassador, Samara and Morinth, even Aria with her calm badassery, LotSB Liara, who was simply incredibly pretty, - and then Asari turned into mundane, average "everyday" blue humans. None of the Asari from ME:A had a charisma together with the appearance anywhere close to the ones I named. And I'd like to see that changed at least for the "important" ones in the next game.

What? Peebee's clothes are really cool! As for her mannerisms and personality - since she is the scientist type in the game, they had to make her personality really different from Liara or she would have been just a carbon copy. So they went a bit overboard to avoid that. Anyway, I do agree the Asari were much like humans and the ageless superiority aspect was somehow lost. It's down to writing. We'll see if they've learned from their mistakes. It is quite possible that none of the returning writers are even aware of details that we argue over here in the forums.

I realized/was reminded of what I did not like about PeeBee's clothing while writing other posts about upcoming Star Wars game. There is a very distincive style of armour/space suits in ME that is a big part of why I like the franchise:
A great high-tech exploration and combat design combined, suited for all sorts of environmental conditions. Looks good, supports immersion for a sci-fi setting to 100%.
But PeeBee went straight against that style, she felt more fitting a Star Wars setting with her jacket and trousers.
We meet her on Eos where deadly radiation is a threat and there is apparently nothing better to wear, when exploring dangerous ancient alien ruins, than a belly free jacket with sleeves that are too short. And then she continues to wear these same rags everywhere else - on Voeld with its freezing temperatures, in the vacuum of space, on a planet with rich fauna and flora with who-knows-what sort of unknown dangerous toxins or parasites. Always belly free, because dying a horrible death in fashion is sooooo cool. Everyone else wears fitting protective clothing btw, including other Asari and even Angara who aren't even bothered by cold that much.
I'd rather see her getting issued some proper suit after getting on the ship and then do her own customization for the style factor, something along these lines:
A personal custom jacket worn on top of an elegant space-proof bodysuit for fashion/characterisation purposes and maybe as a storage for some personal or technical items, belt with a handgun on on side and a multitool on the other. In addition a cool visor with optics allowing reconnaissance from afar(she studies Remnant, after all) for planets with normal living conditions and a proper space helmet for everything else.
My impression of PeeBee is that the devs really tried to make her "a bit like Liara, but totally-not-Liara" and went too overboard with invertion of Liara's traits into a character that is a bit too messy both on the inside and on the outside.
Also, since it needs repeating: the devs need to drop the act of breathing masks replacing actual proper spacehelmets for all Asari. Neither do they look good, nor are they good for immersion in general.

Yes, I agree Peebee's outfit doesn't fit the visuals of previous games. I liked Asari dresses in the trilogy but I did not like the bulkier, militaristic suits and gear in ME3. Yes, it was more realistic I guess, but aesthetically I prefer the ME1 jumpsuit armor lol.
It's quite funny in Jedi Fallen Order how you can just land on a planet and walk straight out and be able to breathe the air. The gravity is exactly the same as on Earth. All the alien races can also breathe the air on every planet and they get along with Earth gravity perfectly. But you don't really think about it because the gameplay is so cool and fun.

Edit: but with customization options for different armour parts like in ME3 still present, for every armour class.

Sharing a picture I wanted to post for some time already, but strugged to find a reason until recently: That one is probably the best in the artist's portfolio, really nicely done. Looks great for a boss NPC or as a baseline for hostile military force. What recently drew my attention to it, is the metallic skull-like facemask and the smaller ornamental face worn on the chest, with mehanical hands adorning the silhouette. We assossiate human skulls with death and destruction, thus the artist's choice is understandable and obviously depicts a machine bringing death and desctruction upon its enemies. Such fearsome masks aren't untypical at all in the human history and going along with this, a thought came to me: what if we would encounter a species with faily long-lasting warrior "caste" tradition of putting building parts of the enemies they most often fight or from the most significant battles into their armours, just like signs of distiction/hull markings/medals in the current militaries? For example, you'd visit a neutral population centre for some unrelated business and then suddenly a group of that guys would come towards you. You'd see some sort of robotic parts and animal(rachni-like or whatever species of similar danger potential) bones on the armours and suddenly there is a guy with 3 human skull frontplates on his armour and you'd go "wait a second..." *reaches for the gun* Also one could imagine some alien warriors designing their helmets in a way that is most unsettling to whomever they are going to fight, psychological warfare being a part of their military codex. Well, just a thought about some flavour/additional characterisation for some alien species. A couple of additional designs for alien species I found recently that I think are something to consider for next ME:
We had basically something like a horned lizard with Krogans for an alien species, so what about a horned snakes for an alien archetype?
Reminds me of something along these lines: Big flat heads, that uncanny predatory look and feel. Where Krogans are the sort of "head though the wall" types, snake ones would be cunning, calculating, patient but also cold and merciless.
This also reminded me of Rakka - a sci-fi short about some sort of exotic alien reptiles invading and subjugating Earth:
Another design I saw recently reminded me of Raloi. I wonder if they could be a species we might actually encounter in the game, seeing what happened to them and their society after the events of Reaper War.

Just sharing a picture that fits the concept of a "live reaper core" from one of my prevous posts pretty well:
