I mean the scene on the Citadel, where she asks you if it wasn't better to just be friends and doesn't look too happy after Shepard insists on staying together. For some reason it still bothers me after all these years.
Can someone explain what that was about?

What it was about is really simple. It was about Mass Effect 3 being "the best place to start" in the franchise. It's a generic somewhat lifeless conversation designed for new ME3 players and utterly ignored the past 5 years and 2 games worth of history involving the characters, like so many other oddities in ME3.

That seeems like a reasonable explanation. I was under impression, though, that the player was already given such opportunity during the very first conversation, but as the german saying "double holds better" it really may have been another chance for a new player to pursue another love interest. Although, honestly, it still comes off as really strange when taken at the face value, but then the devs apparently weren't expecting us to think Mass Effect relay explosions would exterminate all known developed civilizations in the galaxy, when in established lore they would

Sure some of that is EA's fault for rushing ME3 for basically no reason, but honestly, at lot of ME3 mistakes were easily avoidable if Bioware even remotely gave a damn.

Liaras romance contains some of the worst writing/acting/dialogue in the trilogy. Nothing new there. It's definitely good during Shadow Broker, but 1 & 3 definitely have some doozys..
