Playing with a friend on PC and he's wondering about best mouse and key config. Myself am a gamepad players, so said would ask here for those who play with M&K. Also, any sort of tips, like what's the best button for cancel reload, etc. And can the run button be separate from the cover button?

I got everything by default except: L-Alt for gelling (and reload cancelling), E for quick shields restorage, and Q for ammunition refilling.
IIRC, there was a mod for splitting "omni-button", but I've never used it.

I changed medigel to mouse scroll wheel down, anything on mouse should be pretty handy for reload cancelling.
Powers to Q, E and mouse side button. Rest you can fill in the newly spare top number slots

Powers 1 and 3 are on my mouse thumbs. Power 2 is on Q
Changed my consumables. Cobra = 4 Ops "Survival" = 5 Thermal Clip = 6 Medigel = 7/Mouse Wheel Scroll Up
Nothing too radically different so I can play the Talon without much issue. Though the consumables resetting to default gets me killed a lot.
I think if you're gonna rebind anything, moving consubables over and putting "4" to use should be bare minimum

Logitech G700s - 4 thumb and 3 index finger buttons. I use the latter for the 3 consumables.

I find this to be a bit of weird question. Has your friend never played on PC with mouse and keyboard before? Otherwise he'd usually have some kind of "go to default" of his own he is using in a variety of similar games I'd assume. Most people I know have a few keys they always use in similar games and then bind the rest as they see fit according to gameplay and how often and in what combination with other keys they might use this particular binding. I also have one friend who usually starts with the game's default setting and then remaps a few keys if he thinks it's more practical that way once he has learned the basics of the game.
Personally I run kind of an unusual setup for movement alone as I always found WASD a bit uncomfortable. Since I mostly move forward and sideways I find QWES for movement much better. I usually bind some kind of weapon swap to A and/or D. Jumping is often on SHIFT and Dashing either on SPACE and/or a mousebutton. I usually have any kind of use/activate key on TAB, abilities/skills on mouse thumb buttons (which I remapped to F-Keys so they work in pretty much all games). Melee is often on ALT although I have it on RMB in Anthem and on a thumb button in Returnal for example - so it varies a bit from game to game of course. I think in ME3MP I had A,D,Y,X for the consumables with medigel being Y (that is on a german keyboard layout where Y is in the lower row to the left next to the X).

Well for one, he wanted to stop inspecting walls as he was navigating maps. He found a mod that unbinded the run and action button for this, so that is solved. And he is a PC gamer, just notices that this is a console not optimized to well for PC. Atm trying to get him to tac cloak>Energy Drain or Proxy Mine> shoot and he jokingly tells me "that's too many buttons atm" and to let him get used for to just cloak and shoot (via level 3 widow) for now. We're having good times. Lots of laughts. Especially that one days where he kept going "Oh, that's a nice wall. Just making sure walls check out." "Don't mind me, just inspecting another wall. Oh, that a nice one." And so forth.

Yeah good point, I cannot imagine what I would think playing ME3 fresh today, there are soo many concessions I give it for as you say being a 2012 game made on console and ported over to PC. Nice to get some fresh players into it, I'm trying to convince my better half to play again as we used to back when we had 2 X360's

I use ESDF for movement, powers and gel go to Shift, W and two mouse thumb buttons. I rebind powers for every character depending on how quickly I need them and how much I need to preserve the aim while firing them.
