Don't forget about timeline! He's an N7. Somehow I doubt that elder and senior officers had entered the N7 training program. Anderson, one of the first (if not The First) N7s, was just 46 in 2183. It seems the exact age of Jon Grissom had never been mentioned, but he would be that 'pre-first-contact elder generation', I assume it's ~65 (by 2183, since Kahlee is 44 at that point). Is Anderson seriously that young? Damn. Intellectually, I know many of these dates and facts; but it's easy to lose sight of them during the course of dozens of playthroughs. I think they do a terrible job of bringing these characters' ages to life on screen. I'm in my late 30s, now, and I look way younger than nearly all of the humans in the trilogy who are supposed to be in their early 30s. I always thought Sheploo, in particular, looked very much older than his age. Now, I can include Anderson in that category. Tangent: I am reminded of "AC: Syndicate". In the (crappy) DLC for that (crappy) game, the characters are aged from their 20s to their 40s. The male protagonist looks great, very convincing. The female protagonist, who takes 99% of the spotlight, looks 65 years old. It's horrifically jarring. You think Anderson doesn't look his age, then try Admiral Steven Hackett. He is only 52 in Mass Effect 3. ME3 takes place in 2186 and he was born in 2134. Then again he has lived a very stressful life so it makes sense the burden of command has aged him. The same can apply to Anderson.

The First Contact War was rough on these guys. I need to read Hackett's wiki page. I've never read the story behind the scars.

Some look younger for their age. My platoon sergeant was 37 and he looked like he was 77.

,.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸-(_MEA_)-,.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸ Interesting question.
Let's see if I get this right
-Anderson was a candidate Spectre - failed -Shep became the 1st human Spectre in ME2 ? -Kaidan/Williams became the 2nd human Spectre in ME3 (Udina pushed for it)
Sooooo, If, the ARK fleet left just before the Reapers arrived, when did papa Ryder get the N7?
Or, is that N7 really a N7?
As to the age of papa Ryder, my guess is around 44-47.

Wait, wat?
N7 =/= Spectre.
N7 is an Alliance military designation.
Spectre is a council designation.

N7 has nothing to do with the Spectres. We encounter four other N7s besides Shepard in the trilogy: David Anderson, Kai Leng, Lee Riley, and Susan Rizzi. Then there is James Vega who is offered to enter the program to try to become N7.

How? Shepard has their N7 placed where it is before they even know they have been recommended and are being scouted to become a SPECTRE. The SPECTREs have their own insignia anyway.

My guess is 45-55. Maybe older because of the longer lifespan of humanity. Bit I think people generally would like to have children at an earlier age even though you could possibly live longer. But who knows...

But who knows... Yeah, as with many things, we read about the extended lifespans in the Codex, but it isn't well reflected in-game. People seem to age in-game just as rapidly as they do in our real, present world. That would almost seem to imply that people get old and just linger in an aged state for an extra 80 years. Ugh. No thanks. Hopefully, this new game (trilogy/series) marks the beginning of a new start, with a greater focus on details like this. I'm not holding my breath, since I think they've regressed since the first game. Attention to detail and science-fiction went out the window as the trilogy progressed. (They need more Chris l'Etoiles.) I don't think these little things are even on their radar as important, even though the verisimilitude achieved by getting the textures right (and that's all it would take) would be amazing. We couldn't even get consistent hair and skin color on prominent NPCs between games, though, so I'm not holding my breath. (see Udina) I'll take the good and just ignore the silly stuff and missed opportunities.

The same can apply to Anderson. Hackett looks 70 (and that's by today's standards, not in a universe where humans live to be 150)... that's looking older than the stress of command can account for. Really, Bioware were just pretty much clueless about representing appropriate aging in their are... or else the person writing the biographies for the codex was clueless about how old the artists were portraying the characters they were writing about.

We have 2-3 book authors + say another 5 writers for the game + the New Andromeda Lore writers + and they are not in the same room in the Writers Pit. ... I can only guess at the consistency of the Lore.
What Bio needs is a MEA Lore Master. Keeper of the Book.

Oh, well, that being said I'm not overly concerned about the books. At least two of the authors are self professed big fans of the series. I would hope Bioware exerts at least some quality control after the Deception fiasco.

Something tells me that they had never bothered to check the numbers. Well, won't be the first time. Compared to the DAA--DA2 f**ed up timeline, it's just a minor detail. Still, N7 DadRyder can't be much older than that. Shep got the invitation at ~22 (I'm using the Blitz as a reference), for Anderson it had been 20 (2157). Hard to say anytihg about the Vega - we don't seem to have his birth date (really, BW?!), he had joined military in 2176 (I assume ~16-18) and he got his 'lukcy letter' in 2186 (26-28). Vega seems to be the eldest of N7 so far. Now Kai Leng. Enlisted at 16 in 2172, got to N7 in 2176 (20 yrs old). So, my point is, DadRyder has to be old enough to have adult children, but he also must fit the N7 thing.
