I'm trying to figure out which of the 2 classes would make a Colonist/Ruthless Shepard more terrifying, especially when it comes to what happened on Torfan. Soldier, or Vanguard? I'm giving my Shepard this back story, but picking a class for her to match this back story has proven to be difficult. I like to think that Torfan was a brutal massacre, reinforced by Shepard's tragic upbringing, and this grief, anger and hate was unleashed on Torfan.
On one hand, you have the Vanguard. A human biotic using her shotgun, and her biotics to, one by one, rip the Batarians to pieces.
On the other hand, you have the Soldier. She has no biotics to back her up, but somehow it was still a bloody mess, using the weapons she carried at the time, and maybe her bare hands.
So which one would be something that would make Torfan even more disturbing, making her feared across the known Galaxy?

Soldier IMO I'm probably biased because i don't like playing biotic colonists, but Shepard canonically lost many of her own soldiers on Torfan ( or: Sacrificed them all to kill as many batarians as possible ) I feel like commanding and loosing a squad is more difficult when you are rage-charging all over the place and tearing all batarians apart before the remaining squad can even get into range.

The thing is that I'd imagine the base on Torfan to be a hellish maze deep below the ground, with hundreds of Batarians. She wanted those Batarians dead, especially after what she suffered through on Mindoir. I like to think her suffering was the driving force for her methods in slaughtering every Batarian she ran into, disregarding the safety of her squad, and losing most of them in the process, maybe evening separating from some of them in the middle of the chaos. That's why I think Colonist and Ruthless have such a good synergy. It makes you think that Torfan was even more of a massacre than a siege, and why she is called a Butcher. What was left was nothing but unrecognizable piles of flesh, bone, and shrapnel.

Either fits, a vanguard naturally lends itself to an aggressive and angry playstyle which compliments a ruthless roleplay nicely. Thing is you can have a similar playstyle with a soldier that favors shotguns and close quarters combat. Think of Grunt's fighting style.

I like Soldier better. Vanguard is such a superhero killing machine that, given even the slightest lack of regard for the value of life, of course it would turn into a bloodbath. But Soldier Shepard is just a man/woman, which implies that their particular mindset and decision-making played more of a role than their powers, which says way more about them as a person.
Is Admiral Tarkin less scary than Darth Vader, or is he just scary in a different, more realistic way?

CHARGE!
seriously though vanguard fits ruthless like a glove. Considering Torfan was close quarter combat... Where vanguards excel.
