I'm playing DA:O again for the first time on a new computer (running Windows 11), and I downloaded the EA Origin/App version because my CD copy is still at my parents' house. This is probably my 5th or 6th time playing the game, and I have never run into so many bugs!
The Denerim Market District crashes to desktop about 80% of the time I make an area transition, and I got a bug in Soldier's Peak where Avernus wouldn't close the veil. I only had one mod installed (Qwinn's Fixpack), but the bugs persisted even after I uninstalled it.
Has anyone else noticed a difference in the download versions of the game vs. the CD version, or am I just really unlucky this playthrough? I'm tempted to ask my parents to mail my CD copy to me so I can try to play off of that instead, lol.

If the physical media copy is patched to 1.05, they should be essentially the same. Both the bugs you've noted ( Warden's Keep and Denerim Market) are well documented and can occur in any version of the game, especially the Denerim Market crashing, which is caused by the large number of background scripts + the concentration of many NPCs. (The same issue can also crop up in Orzammar.) Some possible solutions are - patch daorigins.exe with either the 4GB or LAA (Large Address Aware) patch, to allow the game to access more than 2GB of RAM
- Use a Window compatibility mode for the game (like Windows XP SP3 or Windows 7)
- Force DirectX 9
- Turn off any overlays (like the EA "in-game" features or screen/video capping programs)
- Lower the game's graphics settings, or let GPU software handle AA
- remove any hi res or script intensive mods (Not applicable in your case)
- for crashing, a habit of saving and reloading regularly can help alleviate the engine-related memory leak
In my experience, the EA download version of the game will run perfectly well, even when very heavily modded.

Thank you so much! I'll try some of these fixes to see what works.
