After completing another legendary run I decided to install and start up Andromeda again. Its been a while since I'm not a huge fan of it. I still have my core complaints with the overall plot of it.
Like I think it openly should have been a refugee story and not we are explorers. It not being a full on secret with how the star child's part of the citadel seems like a plot hole, though i guess they can answer it in ME5? by explaining why reapers didn't stop you. show up before you, though maybe they did and were getting their butts kicked and they are the ones who started the scourge.
Having your ark show up over a year later so by the time you arrive both the exiles and krogan have successful colonies and your first contacts and discoveries aren't first contacts or discoveries.
Little eye rolls when you realize they probably defrosted their best first and that was Sloan, my face is tired etc.(I still like Tann the best, he knows he isn't qualified but is stepping up and trying to do his best in a bad spot)
The pathfinder team the only ones to make the cut when you arrive is Cora and freaking Liam. Like how bad was your dad at hiring people.
And some of the introductions like Koras and Vetras where it felt like player agency was removed. I get he is a rookie but its also supposed to be a RPG so you should have some choices other than standing around like an idiot in a crisis.
And things like if you are a biotic and tossing biotics all throughout habitat 7 Liam still is like whoa you are a biotic Cora, and you have no interactions with her based on a biotic origin.
And while this was never Mass Effects strong suit, more than in any of the other games the aliens don't feel alien. That being said other than my inability to not do all the quests the gameplay is good enough that I am having a decent time. And given its my 4th play through a decent time is all I can really ask for from a game. The vaults are still dope dungeons. The core quest line is well designed in its combat, maps etc, the loyalty quests other than Pee-Bee and Liams are fun. I still vastly prefer the trilogy, but after how clunky combat in dragons dogma 2 felt quick responsive, fun combat is nice to have. I dig the weapon modding system, though i may look for some max research mod as with how limited research points are you kind of feel locked in pretty early to a few guns. Biotics are at their best overall in Andromeda, and I love biotics, it is one of my favorite magic systems in gaming. Haven't checked to see inf the MP still exists, just been sending the strike teams but while I preferred ME3 MP this was still a blast.

It sounded like you were going to talk yourself out of playing. 😄 It reminded me of myself.
I played a lot of MEA in its first year, 17 playthroughs plus several partials. That sounds insane, but my circumstances at the time allowed it, and it's still less than I played ME1 over the years. I eventually gave it a much needed rest, and could never convince myself to go back to it. It was the awkward character writing and dialogue, the unprofessional crew, Ryder's lack of backbone and authority -- a lot of what you covered.
A few months ago, I started thinking of going back, but hesitated. I was really focused on the parts I didn't like and forgetting the stuff I loved. In April, I started and completed my first playthrough in 6 years, and I'm still playing now.
The story is solid, if awkward at times. The main characters are pretty good, with some awkward writing aside. The environments, effects, visual design, and combat are great. They keep me hooked. I wish they hadn't wasted years spinning their wheels during development. What they created in the final 18 to 24 months is impressive. It's clear that they could've made an awesome Mass Effect game if they'd gotten aligned sooner.
So, I really enjoy MEA to this day. It has lots of issues. Its writing and tone often don't align with my preferences, and the game was never truly finished to an acceptable state. The combat, the Nomad, the cool armor and weapons, Biotics and Mass Effect Tech -- I love this stuff so much that it allows me to tolerate the lesser parts.

MEA is a game that can grow on you. I just got hooked into a deep run of the game after completing a trilogy playthrough. I find it is a good way to get more Mass Effect in and still get something different after completing the trilogy.
