Bellara Lutare - Official Companion Thread [Spoilers]

Bellara is the companion that most concerns me.

I'm not a fan of the whole Veil Jumpers thing. And her magic arm doodad 🤔 It turns into her bow? But also looks like it might do an Inky and open the fade? And the whole 'having fun' jumping through the fade in the trailer 🤢

Hopefully her character is more serious than that.

Isn't this the first character he's written for Dragon Age?  Curious to see how it turns out. 

I don't care what people say, I thought Bellara's intro was hilarious. I do think it is interesting to see a Fade jumper, I guess given that the Veil is weakened, people can go in and out of the fade at will.

I'm interested in learning more about her. She looks the best to me of the female options. But I could see her ending up being another annoying PeeBee-like character. Humor/levity are important in good storytelling but executed at the wrong time can cheapen it. And of course there needs to be more to the character than comic relief. So hopefully there's depth to her.

The main thing that has me suspicious about her is that her description is so upbeat and yet we know next to nothing about the Veil Jumpers. Who are they? Where are they from? How did they acquire their knowledge/fancy items? I thought Strife and his "Dalish" clan were suspicious enough in Tevinter Nights. This was only reinforced by Ruins of Reality, when the illustration seemed to link them to the Executors. Then in the Missing they are part of a group called the Veil Jumpers. Perhaps they are another group entirely but they do appear to have sprung out of nowhere. Beware of the elf bearing gifts! Definitely going to reserve judgement until I know more about them as a group.

Its only in the Arlathan Forest that it’s weird. That’s the area the Veil Jumpers are operating in.

I think Bellara is the companion I am most interested in learning about.

That really stems from her connection to the Veil Jumpers. They are the faction I know the least about and that piques my interest lol. I hope she either knows or has answers to all of the questions I have about Arlathan and elvhen lore.

I also hope that if she's "quirky" it's more in the vein of Merrill than Sera.

I have a feeling we could be disappointed on that one. Probably like Solas in DAI, she will only tell us as much as she wants to. Unfortunately my experience with him has left me very wary of strange elves from a faction I've never heard of before. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I'm sure she and the other Veil Jumpers are going to be interesting, though.

Don't think they are vallaslin we are familiar with but they could have revamped them again. However, that doesn't necessarily mean she is Dalish. Strife claimed to be a city elf from Starkhaven in Tevinter Nights who was adopted by his clan when he had to leave in a hurry through being pursued by the city guard. I can believe the last part but I have my doubts about him being an ordinary city elf and he had acquired vallaslin between Tevinter Nights and the Missing. Remember Felassan had vallaslin and was cagey about his clan. He was an ally of Solas. I don't think that will be the case with the Veil Jumpers but I'm still suspicious about their origins and allegiances.
