If he manifests the purple wings during 🦴ing, like when he climaxes - is that a turn-on, or a turn-off? And what if he starts cawing like a crow? Is that weird? 🧐 #Science You have one crazy imagination! Firstly, why would he manifest them? Naturally we don't know all the details of why he has them in the first place but it clearly is something he can control because there are plenty of scenes where he doesn't have them even though he is fighting at the time (the scene with what we have assumed is Zara springs to mind). Also, if they are the result of a spirit cohabiting with him, presumably it would have enough insight not to make it obvious during sex because that might freak out the other party. If you want the full real world experience as a spirit, then play along like the mortals do. Now I realise that Iron Bull claimed Dorian spontaneously combusted during sex and set light to their curtains, or something like that. Well, must have been something to do with the type of sex Bull was into because there were certainly no charred bed sheets with my Inquisitor. I never understood why Bull was so chilled about it, like it was something to joke about, when he freaked out at anything to do with spirits. Yet, the guy you are having sex with is accidentally igniting things and that's okay?! I'd say that whatever you were doing to him, stop doing it. Which brings me back to the purple wings during sex idea. If it was something he couldn't control because of his condition, then I suppose I'd just have to live with it. I think we'd have a little chat about it though because I'd assumed the wings were something that were designed to protect him from attack, so why does he feel threatened by me? I'm trying to reduce his trauma not add to it. Bottom line is, I need to know why he has the wings in the first place before I can really comment on that one. As for cawing like a Crow? Seriously?! How messed up do you think he is? Poor guy. For the record, making any sort of animal or bird noises during sex would be a big turn off.

Weird. I'm the same. No patience for like broken bird syndrome, I mean, yeah, be empathetic, generous, a good listener, blah blah... but also, everyone's got problems. I'm your girlfriend, not your therapist. So get a good one, or a life coach, join a commune and find your zen, grow up, get over yourself... you know, figure it out. Only then, call me. I'm glad everyone's pan in this game, because if all the men suck, I'll lez out hard. My first lesbian protagonist, it was about time, too. And I love Harding and Neve, already. So... Lucanis, don't be too emo, we have a love for coffee in common, don't ruin it with your inner demons (literal or otherwise) or whatever, because I'll move on like it's not even funny.

The very strange thing is Emmrich face is putting me off, (and posture, bracelet etc...) Lucanis pile of issues aren't it, Davrin might end up being the griffon dad dude, with griffon having the most personality of the duo (also man I don't wanna compete with a bloody griffon) So for once the ladies looks way better to me. Weird. You forgot the bit about Emmrich being daddy to a skeleton! He's trying to teach him the ways of the world. Will that include letting him watch during sex? Or overhearing the pair of them discussing the activity between Emmrich and Rook, like we had to endure Cole suddenly blurting stuff out that he had read in other people's minds? I don't think you have to worry about competing with a griffon. After all, the ladies didn't seem to find that a problem with Garahel and were falling over themselves wanting to sleep with him. It is funny that even back in DAO, Morrigan knew of his reputation. Hmm, I wonder if that was because Flemeth tried to get him to sleep with one of her daughters (or her) and it didn't work? (Obviously Last Flight somewhat got in the way of this possibility but Isseya didn't know everything about her brother's encounters). I agree, though, that Assan has probably way more personality than Davrin. But alas he's traumatised through the eyeballs, something I don't find sexy. I don't like the trope of I can fix him As I've mentioned before, frequently, it was having it brought home to me about what being possessed really meant with Anders, that ultimately made me give up on his romance. I was happy to try and help him as a friend, which he didn't appreciate enough or he wouldn't have used me like he did, but Justice being on board was a definite romance killer. Also, the idea you can fix the bad guy can end very badly. My cousin started a relationship with a dodgy guy who had criminal connections. Everyone who knew his background kept warning her against him but she thought she could change him. Sadly she couldn't and she ended up dead. The police said it was suicide but her father was convinced he murdered her. Either way her family were devastated. I thought Lucanis was a possibility because he didn't want to be First Talon and he clearly was bothered by what Fortex was doing. However, whilst the purple wings look cool, I'm really worried about the direction they might take it. So, I'm certainly not going to rush into a relationship with him until I know a bit more about what is going on there. I think it is far more likely it will be another case of trying to help him as a friend, provided that doesn't require me to approve of the Crows as an organisation, even if it is expedient to work with them against the gods. Incidentally, I'm increasingly worried about where the whole specialism/faction thing might be going. Whether playing as a mage or a rogue the specialism I am most interested in is linked to the Crows. What implications is that going to have for me? Also, what sort of jobs will we be doing that allow Lucanis to fulfill his quota as a Contract Killer? I'm getting really bad vibes about this.

They don't matter as you can change them whenever you like. What matter RP wise is your actual faction you pick at the start. I'm sorry about your cousin.

Yes, Astarion's story was satisfying to resolve, but I really could not bring myself to romance him, or any of the others (romanced Gale, but broke it off). I actually love helping my companions with their problems, but the way I see, I can be their therapist, or I can be their lover. I don't want to be both.

Fix yourself, I have a world to save. ...And those companions help you save the world, and seem to be working better as a team, when they're in a better spot? Also, like... I know we're talking about fictional characters, but it's a bit strange to talk about "bothering someone with their trauma" when the trauma in question is being a slave to a particularly cruel master for 200 years, and a high chance of being enslaved again, after we get rid of the very thing that keeps him out of Cazador's claws? And while we don't know what Lucanis' specific problem is, he may meet an unenviable end if we don't help him? Anyway, I gotta admit... I really hate how every relationship, particularly of romantic type, where we could help a person with a problem that affects them mentally is reduced to "I can fix them" lately. Like, if we could only "fix" characters ONLY if we were romancing them, then at least there'd be some sort of valid argument, but when we can help companions with no romance involved, and it requires more than just showering them with love and affection, like actually helping them to deal with a problem in a much more constructive fashion (and they actually respond to that - most of the time it's not an effort wasted on someone undeserving), how is that "I can fix them" ? At this point this is not a trope, but something thrown at everything people don't like or seems superficially similar, and so overused and misused as "mary sue" or "show don't tell".

I can kind of see both sides of this argument to some extent, but I guess to me (1) what I might enjoy in a fictional romance isn't necessarily what I'll go for irl; (2) being able to help characters actually change for the better is part of the power fantasy; and (3) whether I find a traumatized character's romance appealing depends on a lot of factors, like whether it makes sense for my character to be attracted to them and, most importantly, whether my character's support is reciprocated by the love interest. It's nice when a LI mutually tries to help your character too.
As for Lucanis, I could be wrong, but from his TN story I don't think his personality will be quite as angsty as Anders or Fenris, and I don't think his trauma will be as over the top horrible as Astarion's. He seems pretty stoic and while he's been abused by his grandmother, I expect he has also been somewhat protected by his status in the Crow hierarchy. So he probably didn't have to go through quite the same thing as say, Zevran, who was a slave.

And while we don't know what Lucanis' specific problem is, he may meet an unenviable end if we don't help him? I think there are two different issues being discussed here. In my case, I agree that we can help him as a friend and that in itself may make our team stronger, so it is not entirely altruistic, although personally I do want to get him to a better place if I can. My caution is purely over whether to romance him or not because that may raise further issues that do complicate our effectiveness as a team. Also, if the guy is unstable because of a "passenger" then there could be inherent danger in that. Don't know how much you know about the latest reveal by John Epler, so I will put it under a spoiler. At present we just don't know what the situation is but the latest information from John Epler that it might be something the Venatori did to him really had me rattled. I am wary after the whole Anders/Justice thing but Lucanis did start out from a different place to Anders, who had arguably had an even worse time of it growing up in the Circle than Lucanis did under his grandmother. The key might be what happened to his parents, that is apparently going to be revealed at some point. Nevertheless, Corinne did say he has been through trauma and this being the case, I would probably take it slowly out of respect for him anyway. What I am hoping for is that we don't have to immediately start flirting with him (or any of the others) in order to keep the romantic option open. So we can build a rapport and establish trust as a friend and see where it goes from there. They have stressed how they have equally worked on the platonic relationship as the purely romantic one, so I hope that is true. I always preferred DAO with the general chat kept separate from the romantic dialogue, so you didn't have to click on the latter until you were ready or could even avoid it altogether if you knew it was never going to happen. Some of the early romantic prompts in DA2 seemed crass to me, particularly the early ones with Fenris and Anders, and the heart icons still came up very early in DAI when I hardly knew the person, so I hope it is different this time round.

Gervaise isn’t one of them, but it's a little funny how people are complaining about Veilguard lacking darkness, but having the assassin raised from birth to be an assassin and doing, y’know, assassinations, seems to perturb people. Heh. I know in romance community HEA and how toxic a relationship truly is, is often big deal, but personally I’m not bothered by messy romances or platonic relationships. I want to see different shades of character’s personalities and flaws and how they mitigate or amplify each other—my MC included. They don’t need to be morality plays. Tolstoy said it best: “All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”
And yeah, I personally do find it hard to believe Morrigan (in Origins) or Astarian could maintain a long term romantic relationship. At least, at that point in their lives. But that's a different question from helping them with serious trauma, irrespective of if you're dating.

It's nice when a LI mutually tries to help your character too. I agree completely, for example, I enjoyed romancing Astarion in BG3 but I would not dare to do that irl, he needs a therapist first and foremost. The reason why I want to romance Lucanis is because I liked him in TN and I was beyond excited he is a romanceable companion in the Veilguard. I admit, I imagined him differently - cutting off that mullet would do wonders for him (just my opinion ), but based on his personality in TN and the way Bioware described Lucanis so far, I think i will like him but if his unwelcome demon tag along is too much of a trouble, Davrin will be promoted to my first playthrough romance.

Nah I'm tired of nannying dudes and playing shrink, I can do this easy IRL and done this enough. It really says something about the world where helping someone, including helping someone with a problem that affects them mentally, is somehow reduced to "nannying" and "playing shrink". It is what it is. I've dealt with enough men who refused to see a professional, or try a healthier lifestyle but keep on trauma dumping on me. I've been threatened by different men of suicide/self harm when I tried to put on healthy boundaries. It doesn't matter in a video game. IRL you gotta tread carefully.

I've never said that bad cases don't happen, especially IRL. What I'm protesting against is making virtually all cases when a person needs some sort of help, or a push in a good direction/away from a bad one as a case of "nannying" or "playing shrink", including cases where stuff like "go see a professional" or "try healthier lifestyle" are entirely inapplicable, for a variety of reasons. Never mind cases when a character never shares or 'trauma-dumps' without us explicitly prodding them to share their woes with us.

Yeah, this is a fantasy game, let’s keep it light and fluffy. Lucanis may have his demons (oooh, see what I did there ) but I’m not seeing any signs of a potentially toxic or abusive relationship. It could be fun, it could be riveting. Or it could be like, this is too angst and emo for me (or even triggering, for some) I’ll help you as a friend (like you might help every DA and ME under the sun), but as far as pursuing a romantic relationship, not my cup of tea. And that’s perfectly fine and varies from person to person. IRL though, you see a red flag, honey, run for the hills. There’s being a good human and being supportive of someone going through a rough patch, and there’s ignoring all kinds of bad signs and putting yourself in harm’s way, because you think you can “fix” people. Sure, people can change and evolve and all of these things, if they’re willing to and do the work themselves. But you don’t fix nobody, and you’re not responsible for it either. Get them a good therapist’s number and wish them luck on their journey. Now: let’s get back to Lucanis manifesting purple wings and cawing like a crow when boning. xD

I admit, I imagined him differently - cutting off that mullet would do wonders for him (just my opinion I'm disappointed by the beard. He was clean shaven in TN because he joked about growing a beard if his face became too well known. I've said that his outfit covered with eyes would seem to be as much of a give away to me. How many other people have that? To be honest, whilst he is younger and with slightly different facial structure, essentially his design is almost identical to Blackwall. Long dark hair, receding hairline on the forehead, beard (albeit differently shaped and slightly less full). Why does the guy with the dark and mysterious past have to look that way? I'd rather see his full face but I doubt there will be an option to get him to shave. However, I know lots of people find beards sexy, so I'll have to live with it.

I'm still curious about what the companion progression screens reveal about the possible development of his character: (Do not read if you are totally avoiding spoilers) I notice that there is a button at the bottom of the screen, next to the four ability buttons, that must have some relation to his personal quest (I assume) because on some of the other screens it had yet to be unlocked. In the case of Davrin it showed a symbol of a golden griffon, so presumably something relating to Assan, as appropriate to his faction of Grey Warden, or something specific to his care of the griffon.
That would mean that the one for Lucanis may be related to his faction of Crow or something related to his condition. Then on he ability screen there is one path totally blocked off by a red X. I stress, not a padlock, which would suggest it has yet to be unlocked but an X suggesting it is now off limits. Above that path is an eye symbol, suggesting it relates to his "possession". Other abilities are still available with an eye above them but with certain other paths subsequently blocked off with an X. So, I think there must definitely be some major choice to be made with respect to his spirit/demon and how he utilises it. There also only appear to be 17 nodes out of around 40+ potential ones to be lit (although this figure would be reduced if one section is wholly off limits), suggesting this occurs quite early on, perhaps during his recruitment mission. It's intriguing.

I think it has to do with their personal quest / character development - “Friendship” perhaps indirectly, as progressing through it means you’re getting to know your companion better.

I'm disappointed by the beard. I'm not a fan of the beard either but I was expecting it since Lucanis said himself he'll grow one in TN. I agree, he looks a lot like Blackwall, hence my favorite hashtag #blackwallhotcousin. I wonder who at Bioware decided that's what straight women (or players who play female characters and romance dudes) enjoy? Blackwall and Iron Bull were the only romances in DA:I after all, before Cullen and Solas were added due to extended dev time. Actually, I eventually romanced everyone available to a female character but never did these two romances. There's Lucanis and Illario fanart based on The Wigmaker Job, and yes, they look way too pretty here, but there's no harm in that :

Lucanis looks good with the facial hair, imho.

I wonder who at Bioware decided that's what straight women (or players who play female characters and romance dudes) enjoy? Well to be fair, this time round they have a choice of facial hair or not on the three guys available to them from the outset (beard, small moustache or clean shaven), plus markedly different voices. That was another thing I thought funny about Lucanis growing a beard to conceal his identity, he only has to open his mouth and people will instantly know he isn't from Tevinter and may even known it is associated with Antiva. Add in the distinctive armour and the beard does become rather redundant. I like the beard, personally. I'd have preferred the designer stubble look for preference. He's probably doesn't always have time to shave and is not so meticulous about his appearance as Illario. Just let us see a little more of the actual facial structure underneath the fuzz. It's probably just as well, otherwise I would spend too much of my time staring at his face from different angles rather than getting the job done. EDIT: By designer stubble, I mean like his VA.

Some more new information about Lucanis on the official website that may be considered a spoiler: It says about how when visiting various areas of the world you may find the companions out and about on their own. Then they say "When heading to Treviso, we recommend finding Lucanis and enjoying a cup of coffee together."
So, Lucanis is back in Treviso? I suppose once he learned it was under attack he may have returned voluntarily out of loyalty to his family. Or this seems to confirm that he did return to Treviso after the Wigmaker Job and his "death" occurred subsequent to that, may be in Antiva itself. Either that or after we recruit him in Tevinter, he reconciles with the Crows.
Let's face it, beard or no beard, he could hardly be enjoying a cup of coffee in Treviso without someone from the Crows recognising him, so he has to be there with their knowledge.
Also, I now realise that the sequence in that first companion trailer was set in Treviso. There are the same lanterns and banners in the background as the latest location video. So, it would seem we do recruit him there.
