You're either born a Mage or you're not one. Can't have it both ways. Actually you can and that is perfectly legit in the lore; it has been since DAO/DAA and can also be found in the Core Rule Book. Technically it is also what a Seeker is, a Spirit Warrior who has bonded with a Faith Spirit. Cassandra explained the sort of powers it gives them (which she didn't possess in game), which sounded very akin to blood magic to me with some of them (can set the lyrium aflame in the blood of the victim) but also protects from possession and mind control. I've always argued I could see no reason why you couldn't have a Dark Seeker who had bonded with a faith spirit because they "believed" in their cause or profession so much it was akin to their religion (Lucanis could fit that definition) but the Spirit Warrior could team up with any spirit and I assume that would also apply to demons, depending on how the contact was originally established.

Anyhow. I think it'd make sense as well, given how they're moving away - or rather branching out, into more hybrid-type classes with more options in gameplay. The Spirit Warrior has always been a class though but we've only ever see it in a companion in Justice, who was a literal spirit warrior. However, the class is meant to be one where the non mage has nevertheless acquired the assistance of a spirit which gives them certain abilities that makes them look like a mage to the outside observer (and southern Templars) but in fact is coming entirely from their spirit guardian. I was hoping that the class might make a return in DAV, particularly as a companion, as I thought it more likely to be found in Tevinter because there is not the same prejudice there against using spirits. So, for the present I am going to remain hopeful that Lucanis is just a Spirit Rogue and not anything more sinister than that. I love that idea. Doubt it's as simple as just a class thing, though, for sure there's more meat to the story.

He's a Mediterranean type - so I'm thinking mostly of actors and celebs from that region. And it makes sense, considering that Antiva carries strong Italian vibes. His nose is a work of art

Is this an official picture or fan art? I'm assuming fan art but I thought it close enough to what we have seen officially that I decided to post it. I think it was originally posted by a fan on X but I just picked it up doing a general search on the Net for images of Lucanis. They have never stated his age but I imagine he had to be at least in his thirties to be a Master Assassin. However, talented you are and whatever family connections you have, in order to achieve that level of expertise you need to have spent time in the field honing your craft. Also, I don't think Caterina would have wanted to hand over control of House Dellamorte until he had proven himself to be worthy of it. Nevertheless, he can't be more than his mid-thirties because of Caterina being his grandmother. She is apparently in her early seventies. Even if she had his parent in her teens and they in turn had him in their teens, it would still be a stretch to make him any older. Not impossible but unlikely.

However, Mary Kirby also tweeted she was confident that we will love his VA, so I'm remaining hopeful that his voice will just be the icing on the cake when it comes to his sex appeal.

I'm not happy that the best looking companion by far is a crow. He better not sound like Puss in Boots again. Yeah I cannot stand Zevran... I'm also normally not into Italian/Spanish dudes, especially not their languages. His personality would need to win me over. Which means he'll have to not like his own guild for some reason.
Btw I purchased Tevinter Nights and started reading today. Just finished the first story. So let's see how I like this guy after I'm done with his short story.

I was rummaging through Tumblr when I came across the Veilguard cast images with their respective names and monikers. It occurred to me that while Lucanis has the moniker of 'The Mage Killer', what if that doesn't mean he kills mages in general? What if that name means he killed one particular mage and is now being persecuted for it? I am of course referring to the short story 'The Wigmaker Job' where Lucanis kills the Venatori blood mage Forfex. This in turn makes the Venatori interested in him. It would then make sense that he would need our (Rook) help to deal with them.

What if that name means he killed one particular mage and is now being persecuted for it? Well, that was the intention of the Venatori leader at the end of that story. She definitely wants revenge not just for Forfex but all their other cultists that he has killed. So far as I could tell Lucanis had become rather picky in his jobs and only took those that involved killing Venatori blood mages that had it coming to them, although to be fair he admitted to Illario that his anonymous sponsor was paying well for the service. Only thing is, they didn't just call him the Mage Killer but the Demon. Perhaps the writing team decided that would be a bit too on the nose to use it as his moniker. I fully expect part of his personal quest(s) to involve the Venatori in some way. Zara Renata hinted that she wasn't going to simply kill him but exploit his weaknesses in service of their aims and make him suffer. She identified one weakness was that the apparent ruthless killer has a heart because he saved the slaves. We also know the Shadow Dragons are directly opposed to the Venatori. So she could perhaps use his connection with the Veilguard and Neve to get at that organisation. Also, if Rook is in a romance with him and she gets to hear of it, perhaps she will use that in some way.

Zara Renata is likely going to be involved in Lucanis's storyline... if she hasn't already in the gap between TN and DAVe. I remember she was also like: "So, he fancies the name 'demon', let's make sure he lives up to it". Sounds ominous... I hate Zara Renata already. Also, the scene with the mirrors in TN makes the name "Zara" very apt. Those who know will know.

I love that idea. Doubt it's as simple as just a class thing, though, for sure there's more meat to the story. Returning the the Spirit Rogue idea, if it turns out to be true, I was thinking that perhaps there might be some sort of twist to it that we can influence whether the spirit leans more into its negative or positive aspect by our relationship with Lucanis. Anders seemed to suggest that he was influencing Justice to be Vengeance as much as Justice was influencing him but his strength of emotion was so strong Justice would remain vengeance so long as they were united. Whether you were a friend or rival also affected the initial benefits he gained from his specialisation. Perhaps it might be similar with Lucanis but even have an effect of the outcome for him, a bit like Anomen back in BG2, where he started off lawful neutral and your influence could either result in him becoming lawful good or lawful evil. I don't imagine it will be as stark a contrast with Lucanis but there might be an element of it there. We have had someone with a relationship with a spirit in each game so far: Wynne in DAO; Anders in DA2; Cassandra in DAI (even if she would deny it if asked but it is obvious that is what was going on); plus spirits acting as companions: Justice in DAA and Cole in DAI. I assume that Manfred will occupy the latter role in DAV but that still leaves a vacancy for the spirit partner companion in DAV. Unless Manfred's relationship with Emmrich is meant to fill that role, Lucanis would seem the most likely candidate.

Plus, with the Veil so thin, this would be a good opportunity to write something interesting w/ spirits for a companion - especially for a non-mage, a Master Assassin no less - someone we didn't expect + tied up to the introduction of more hybrid-type classes, not as cookie cutter. I like the idea of our relationship with the companion influencing where that leads. Good stuff!
