Has anyone heard of The Banishers? Can anyone who has played it offer their opinion and/or tell me anything about the game? (It's popped up on my Steam page as a Recommendation based on....) But I've never heard of it.

It's been some time. Take a look at the vid about the combat and abilities. It's ok for me. Main plot, it's an interesting premise. Game world is set in the 17th century. Main characters. Ok but don't expect anything but the fad of the last several years in the engine of the FMC personality. Side quests stories. Mostly tales of stupidity, can be better written, tedious, repetitive and annoying, in my opinion. The lives of pioneers were harsh and unforgiving in the New World. They're at the mercy of elements, their survival depended heavily on their animals, tools and harvests. The writers should have done their research, read up and draw inspiration and ideas from the lives of pioneers. Instead, they're running with the modern fad so there's very little era immersion the game world is supposed to be set in; the 17th century. That's not to say there are no good tales in the SQs but they're few. Player action determines type of ending of which there are two choices. Some areas of the map of the will be closed off until the ability to open up the blocked path is gained. Pathing / exploration is slightly branching. There is the usual going back and forth but FT is available. Conclusion of game; I don't feel anything at the end. Overall, I grade it a 7/10. This game is by DontNod who also made Life Is Strange and Vampyr. LiS is pretty good but I don't think much of #2 and #3. LiS 4 is coming out soon but I'm not getting it without some idea of story even though Max is returning. I picked up The Banishers because I was intrigued by the supernatural aspect of the story and interested to find out what's behind it.

Thanks, SJ. Thanks, Gryph. I think I'll pass on it...but thanks for the input nonetheless. It helped me make a decision at least and informed me (somehwat) about the game as it is one I had never heard of. So, thanks.

On my wishlist because I loved Vampyr (except the combat was too difficult for my liking). LiS was a decent game as well. Didn't play the others in the series though because first game was a bit corny already and I think it just got worse was my impression.
Anybody here play Vampyr and can tell me if the storytelling is as good or worse? Enjoyed Vampyr's storytelling and finding out secrets about people a lot. Loved the ending too.

That game was on my "Removed from Library" List and I've never even heard of it let alone played/owned it.

I couldn't finish it because the clunky combat was annoying. I tried twice when I bought it. Then tried another PT a year later and same story. I'd probably try again some time this year. After I pass through the current phase; binge drama watching. Since I never finished the game, can't compare the two but I think story wise / SQ / MC, Vampyr might be a little better from the several hours I had played.

I just heard of this game last night. I am tempted to buy it when on sale because I did enjoy Vampyr which was made by the same studio.
