Origins, but man is it hard to play these days. I guess my tastes/preferences in gaming have evolved over the - nearly - 15 years since it released. Plus I've become a bit of a graphics snob. #pcmasterracebitches The DA game I am most likely to play going forward - if not DAVe - is Inquisition. Unless DAO gets a miracle remaster of some kind (we've had that discussion, and I know the chances are near zero and if it did happen, it would be more of a "remakester") in which case I would lose my mind. I haven't been able to replay Origins for years because of the architecture of the game being designed for Windows ME and anytime I try and play DA:O I have service or other system issues with the game. I have also found that Origins was the type of game I could only place once much like a Bethesda title. Man - you have the worst luck with gaming. Between this and your ongoing issues with Ubisoft Connect, it's little wonder you've not gone back to them. I disagree about Origins being the type of game that could only be played once, though. I completed it 6 times, and really only stopped because DA2 came out. I haven't been able to replay Origins for years because of the architecture of the game being designed for Windows ME and anytime I try and play DA:O I have service or other system issues with the game. I have also found that Origins was the type of game I could only place once much like a Bethesda title. There's some sort of large patch needed for some with newer pcs or something. LAA patch I think it's called. The problems with playing old games Hopefully it gets a remaster at some point Yeah, it was something to do with a memory leak, I think? Wasn't it known as the '4GB patch', or something? Or am I thinking of something different?

DA2 is my favourite game despite it's faults. The normal person gets thrown into all kind of weird stuff story is more to my liking than "Oh no ... End of the World ... again". Plus Hawke is just one of the best protagonists ever for me. I never really vibed with DAI. Too much filler stuff and everything was kind of ... mid.

Loved DAO but it is clear we are never going to return to the old style RPG way of doing things. It was truly the end of an era rather than the start of a new one when it comes to how you develop your character, the game play style and control of your party. I like the political aspects of the narrative and that confronting the Arch-demon was more of an underlying threat until near the end and ultimately saving Ferelden was our motivation but we had to overcome more immediate mundane issues in order to do so.
DA2 would probably have got my vote if it hadn't been so rushed and it showed. Also if they had gone with the intended expansion that would have resolved Hawke's story properly, including giving them a wedding with their love interest. Was really sorry to see what we had missed out on. The early signs were also there of the slimming down of choices when developing your character that were continued in DAI and even more in DAV. I did like the idea of having a story that was not about saving the world but would have preferred one not done as a flashback narrative by Varric.
DAI looked good but it did have a lot of filler content that didn't really add anything to the narrative. I did like the DLC though and think the main game would have been better if they had kept it more focused on the main narrative but with interesting side-quests and exploration as the DLC did that didn't involve trudging across vast expanses of nothing in particular. Also, they should have allowed companion banter to trigger in safe areas, as they did in DAO and DA2 if we chose to have some quite time with companions doing a bit of shopping, so I didn't miss out on the conclusion to a conversation because we were randomly attacked. I think Corypheus had a lot of wasted potential as an antagonist. Whilst the premise was similar to DAO in that we had to solve various political issues before we were able to defeat him, he was more than simply an Arch-demon waiting in the wings and given his history, I think we should have had the opportunity for more direct interaction with him that was not simply him spouting a superior monologue. To confine any character development on his part to just one path was ridiculous and then even waste the potential there. There should have been more focus on him in the main narrative and less on his crazy minions, with shallow motivations and laughable credibility.

I changed my initial vote from DAI to DA2 - DAI is the game I played the most out of the three and, despite its flaws, it's one of my favourite games of all time. But then I remembered how hard DA2 hit me because of Hawke and their family's fate, not to mention that DA2's companions are my dream team.
And DAO is a classic, but now it reminds me how old we got - the game and myself ;-)

It's hard for it not to be DAO. It's difficult to explain how amazingly good I found DAO to be. It was like experiencing an epic fantasy trilogy all packed within one game, and I never felt more attached to an RPG pc than my city elf warden.
For that reason it is DAO. However, I'll say this, DA2 is the best game in the series to pick up and play. Both DAO, and DAI are quite a slow burn, and there are moments of tedium in both games I dread on replay. But DA2? You can create a Hawke, and be having fun from the start.
I do like DAI a lot as well, but I would say there is something less special about it compared to prior games.

DA:O obvisouly, I find it all round the best, with the most replayability, from there, imho BW have not been able to live up to the masterpiece of that game.

Tough tossup between DAO and DAI, but I think Trespasser tips it in favor of the latter.
Also, Inquisition was my introduction to the series (went back and played DA2 and DAO only after playing DAI) so I have sort of an emotional attachment to it.

You started with Inquisition then found Origins? OH NICE! Usually if people didn't start with Origins they don't go back and play. Unfortunately I don't think Origins has aged too gracefully ( ) I wish it would get remastered already

I liked DA2, but I loved DAO. This was fairly soon after DAI came out, so DAO hadn't aged quite so much at the point- still pretty rough, but it didn't bother me. And its definitely one of the all-time great RPGs, its so good, especially for when it came out. Way ahead of its time. But yeah, give DAO a damn remaster already, BW pls..

ORIGINS! My favorite game in the series by far.
It has better race selection than Exodus, with origin stories that set the tone and establish the characters (and numerous references to your background peppered throughout the story). Massive replay-ability for those that want to partake (I develop a canon, and stick with that). The absolute best of the bunch for build variety and styles, with a meaningful, customizable attribute system. It is partially an illusion, but I like the silent protagonist for the greater variety of potential responses and interactions. The game also unfairly gets to be the first to introduce me to the world and lore that I so love.
Exodus gets a vote for the best tactics system, and Inquisition for my favorite companion cast.

Hmm... that's hard. I love all my children equally, haha, flaws and all. It would probably be Inquisition, however, even if I think Origins is better in its execution. Inquisition was the first "next gen" game I ever had the chance to play, gifted to me for my birthday the first year I had my own apartment, and it holds a special place in my heart for that reason alone. I also really like how it utilizes the central motif of aftermath, in regards to characters and the overarching story. The fetch quests did not age gracefully, but something about walking through the shattered remains of battlefields always struck me as genuinely poignant. I often felt as I imagine Solas must have felt, a ghost haunting lands ravaged beyond recognition, especially in areas like the Dales. And I just... I love the companions. I wouldn't change anything about them, unless it was to ask for more. I love how they echo and reflect and foil each other, how they may not necessarily tie in the plot but they always felt like they had a place in the world, how they're messy and regressive in many facets, yet still capable of emotional multivalence.
Edit: I also loved the philosophical components in Inquisition the most of the three. Its examination of symbols and their impact felt like something straight out of a Baudrillard essay. The previous games share an interest in Jungian archetypes, but never quite venture beyond them into more esoteric spheres.

Dragon Age: Origins for sure. And it will remain in the best for me, as DAV has far too many red flags for me (action combat, no real party control, lack of tactical camera, over the top animations and a less dark and gritty look/feel (which i know is subjective) )
Maybe a future DA game, if that ever happens, goes back to all the things that made Origins great.

If I go by world building and general lore then DAO - which drew me - sucked me in really. Also, the companions formed the best crew of all 3 games.
If go by atmosphere & storytelling, then it would be DA2. There is something really compelling about Hawke's tragic story.
If I go by time played then it would be Inquisition. I just loved the conceit of running a large organization and the higher, larger stakes involved.
So, to answer the question, each game is my favorite but for different reasons.

2 is excellent in all regards. I love that it is a story told over years and we get to see how companions develop and change. And the friendship rivalry system is easily the best companion approval/disapproval mechanic in the franchise. It allows for very interesting dynamics to take place that aren’t straightforward in the least. Especially during the final battle. It’s also a game that doesn’t puss out when it comes to darkness. You are not a hero. You are not a savior. You’re a survivor who comes into power. You can be noble, honorable and kind. You can be malicious, unscrupulous, and cruel, or somewhere in the middle. Rivaled Aveline has to be my favorite companion in the franchise.

it's hard to say. every game has something better and worse than the others.
if i could mix, i'd choose DAO and DA2, leaving inquisition out
DAO has more positive thing that any other Dragon Age but i had more fun with DA2 combat. Also i liked more DA2 story (DAO better atmosphere, and more epic). Also all classes are better balanced in DA2 and i liked skill trees more (even inquisition is good). DAO is too much about mages. active abilties for warriors and rogues are not satisfying to use DA2 also introduced Cross class combos (something that made combat better)
DAO music is better. i liked the map more (DA2 too many recycled areas), and loot/equipment is much better.

Liking Origins above all others is almost a cliche, it's certainly not a very deviant outlook, but what can I say? As far as I'm concerned Dragon Age Origins is one of the best videogame titles ever created in the history of the medium. I can easily count the other games that belong in that same circle of excellence on the fingers of one hand.

It's Inquisition for me. But it's a tough choice since all DA games have a special place in my heart and it's one of my favourite franchises (Mass Effect stole the throne at some point) I love Origins, because I came from playing J-RPGs and then one day some long long time ago a school friend showed me and some other friends DAO and my mind was blown. A customised character to play and awesome choices to make! What sorcery is this!? I was in awe and played both DAO and DA2 on my own as well after that. Also a huge fan of DA2, despite a couple flaws. MHawke's voice is still one of my favourites of all time. I fell into a bit of a DA rabbit hole while waiting for Inquisition. I was so incredibly hyped for this game, I had read all the books by then, played DAO and 2 multiple times and I even made an account on BSN to fully enjoy the ride. I was ecstatic that Cole was a companion because I loved him so much in Asunder, and I was pumped for sooo many things. Playing it I was not disappointed, loved the story, companions, the frigging amazing soundtrack and the beautiful maps and the discoveries in each! Some things were also not so great, but I'm not really bothered by that. I am currently finishing up a DAI run again and this game is still beautiful after 10 years. (Even the Hinterlands!!) So I guess... Inquisition maybe had the luck to be my first DA game I witnessed a launch of, but it was pretty special overall and I still adore it I recently bought DAO and 2 via Steam because my PS3 is not properly working anymore and I am so excited to revisit these two as well now (even though I am not thrilled about the Deep Roads in Origins, gah! ).

DAI. It’s my favourite game of all time. I love the open zones, the music, the characters, the story, and the roleplaying it offers. I honestly don’t see another game challenging this.
Origins used to be a close second, but my recent trilogy run has exposed a lot of flaws in its writing and gameplay that take it a little lower now and DA2 crept up to overtake it.

The one mod I would have liked doesn't seem to exist, Controller mod But I've already read DAO and 2 aren't so tough to play with KB+M, let's see! I use a controller with mouse combo. It works well for me. For my controller I use reWASD.
