Staff heavy charge attack is a big cone aoe knockback that deals lots of damage. It was used like once. Mage have the tools to keep things away from them beside fade step, they just were not used here to show other part of their arsenals. I think what I'm looking for is also whether or not there are other means of having your threat generation reduced, or increasing threat generation for your warrior companions (outside of the Taunt ability). I'm also not sure why they didn't replace Harding with Taash. She's specifically known as having a number of fire-based attacks, and her taunt would be of a good use against the Darkspawn (especially as a mage player).
Ah, yes, Taash.
By now I can say it's deliberate on Bio's part. The Ranger/Archer class is the last one to be shown. We may see the demo in early October.

Mage combat was little bit "on the face" for my liking. Still, my first Rook will be elf evoker and I really wish I don't have wrestle with enemies 😂 The setting was creepy, can't wait.
I'm resigned to be constantly on the move.... something that I feared because I'm not that good at it. Still, it didn't seem bad..... However, it's lvl 30?... could get worse down the road.
The game's does have settings to ease combat. Hm... I wonder if Bio will show that?

Well they are playing 2 mages and rogue setup - it's hard to not be "on the face" without anyone pulling away enemies and stabilizing the field. Also, the build they're using is supposed to be more melee and action'y, according to what they said.
Two mages + Harding. Perhaps Bio wanted to highlight the mage. Also, the defeat shows the necessity of bringing along the right mix of abilities. The Dakr Spawn have their own range units.

Hmm didn't really sell me on the mage gameplay. Not really feeling the dagger/orb combo. I would have much rather had the melee aspect be staff focused, like Hawke in that old DA2 trailer. Also that poor Qunari lol. I was planning on playing one first but that one def didn't leave a good first impression. I do like the voice though
Now that you mentioned it... well it was a young male after all. Now, if the Q was female, the cinematic would probably show a "strong" female char.
About the dagger. I thought he pulled it out and used it to shoot at something.

Yeah. I really hope that it was just because whole party was ranged or because player just likes to get too close to enemies even when not playing spell blade. If you have watch the rtx trailer you see range mage. They only set it up to be meele mage here. Harding instead of Taash and beeing way to close to the enemie.
Yea hI thin kI would hav eused Taash in this mission. Knowing now tha t darkspaewn a evulnreable t ofire I'll likely use Taash quite a bit agains tthem in m yfirs trun.

Lighthouse looks good. I like that we can see memories of Solas's rebellion The griffin continues to be cute, especially the ears. Mage combat looks boring. Lots of swinging of the staff and basic, boring attacks. The design of the staff also looks bad, but I guess that is the least of the mage's problems. The person playing was not able to stay at range, even after saying that mage was primarily a ranged class. Maybe some cc would have helped? But with only 3 abilities there is not much room to take anything.

Yeah, I don't think this gameplay video did much in terms of alleviating the "too few abilities" concern, for a mage, especially.
Still, I dig the "Fade Step"/Blnk//Dodge (though DAI's was cooler - this looks more like MEA's biotic dodge) and the block/shield magical bubble.
We need a mage "expert" (somebody who really enjoys mage gameplay) to give us a better sense of what to expect. Combat in this video was rather disappointing.

It would be great to see mage Rook in a party with a proper tank drawing aggro, so we can see some ranged combat. Every Rook so far has been melee, with enemies focused on them, so I'm wondering if Rook draws aggro by default, or if it's just a byproduct of the builds they've chosen to show us. I'm planning on a dwarf Rook for my first playthrough anyway, but it would be nice to know whether a somewhat traditional ranged mage is still an option for a future playthrough.

They really need to release the CC before launch.
Someone good at it needs to create a proper Qunari if possible. Would encourage the Qunari fans.
I felt bad for them today.

not a mage fan, but this didn't seem a mage at all
From a mage i would like to see more spells like pull of the abyss, some very good CC, not just damage

Our mage selects Neve and Harding as his team and proceeds on wards, jumps into a boat manned by "Charon" who Bio named the Gate Keeper... and finally arrives at his destination all by his lonesome. Then, when combat is eminent, our two companions magically appear. ** WTF** ??? No possible opportunities for banter!!
I was sure Bio mentioned there is plenty of banter in the game.... is this demo heavily edited?

I believe he is using a sceptre and can hit something with it.
I did not see his mage specs but the way he used the sceptre some melee spec is in there. Pity... I wanted to see a non melee... anything no melee magic specced mage fighting at range that stays at range. The guy had to move around fast to maintain distance....
And where was his team? How did the two help? I couldn't see their contribution except in the ice spell. I know Corrine mentioned they do something independently but.... can you show me?

I assume it's probably to show that any party is composition is viable, if challenging, and they seem to want to focus battle mostly on Rook ATM. It's probably easier to explain what's going on when we focus on one character and what they do.

Ah... you mean the text? That's the new style banter? .... I was expecting voices... as in the past.
Unfortunately, John and Corrine talked over most of the banter.
hm.. I'm partially hearing impaired... so I missed that...

They keep sidestepping the healing question and it bothers me.
Heck, they specifically acknowledged in this video there are many players (including me) who *want* healing reintroduced as a playstyle, and then sidestepped the answer by saying: Oh yeah, well Neve has healing spells.
Like, that's great and all but the devs also removed the ability for players to play as Neve. They haven't given a direct answer or not as to whether the *player*(Rook) can main as a healer once they unlock what I assume to be the spirit healer specialization

Hm. I played a lot of the IGN vid with the sound off to avoid the dev spoiling too much, but put the sound back on for the Rook/Davrin dialogue and then randomly in a few spots to get a gist.
Thoughts: -Lighthouse looks amazing- if not a little too clean and perfect, although the layout doesn't really make sense to me. -Qunari Rook looked like how I imagine an upper-class adolescent Qunari to look. Awkward body dimensions and pampered flawless skin lol. -Davrin's voice doesn't really fit his face. I'm glad he's more mature than Liam from Andromeda, but his face looks too young for such a deep and full voice. -I see what people mean about the stiffness of NPCs. I Think BG3 really spoiled us. -I dislike how open the world is. I'm already a bit exhausted thinking about how many hours I'll sink into some maps. Was hoping it would be more linear. -Maybe it was the IGN player, but yeah, Mage is not for me. Constantly running in circles desperately twirling my staff is not it. Warrior looks much more appealing.
I know that sounded really negative, but I'm definitely still hyped and will be eager to play and explore these beautiful landscapes with these companions. As much as I hated hearing even a few spoilers, they did make me optimistic about the story's direction and it delivering in a big way.
