Context: I'm a novice/intermediate mod-user (who's never created any mods of my own, and no access to the toolset/no skill at using graphic software to make stuff). I'm wondering if someone who knows more than I do can answer a few questions. (I don't have my heart set on anything, if something would require skill or tools I don't have, I'm perfectly fine letting it go.)
1) Re: installation instructions that say, 'do not use DAO Mod Manager': I prefer to use DAOMM, for a lot of reasons. If a mod's author says 'don't use mod manager', and I do use DAOMM by using the 'create override' function and then installing that override, what's the risk in doing that? (FWIW, so far, I have had complete success - as far as I know, knock wood - using DAOMM for all my mods, even for those whose authors say not to.)
2) I've read about and seen overrides with filenames that begin with "Z", to get those files to have a higher load priority than any other files with the same names. A few times, I've seen instructions that tell me to put files in the toolsetexport folder to enforce higher load priority. What's the difference in outcome between these two methods? Are there cases when using the toolsetexport folder is the recommended way to do it? (I don't have a toolsetexport folder - where do I create one?)
3) If I rename a .dazip file before installing it using DAOMM, will that break it? Put another way, do the contents of the dazip incorporate the .dazip files name? Or is it just like any zipped file, a container, that I rename as I choose before installing?
Thank you!

1. Is the mod a manual override, i.e. a folder/files that are placed in the override folder? If so, the warning to not use DAOMM is probably an alert that DAOMM, can't install the mod, as is. (The other common old skool mod manager for DAO, DAModder, can usually install manual overrides.) If it is a regular manual override, there's no harm in converting it (for personal use) to a DAOMM .override package... I do it all the time, and have never had an issue.
2. There's no hard and fast rule; reverse alphanumeric folder/file name vs toolsetexport folder is a matter of personal preference. I do think some mod users are over-reliant on toolsetexport for a fast fix, as opposed to identifying and resolving mod conflicts; IMO it's always worth it to do the hard work and keep a mod install as conflict-free and clean as possible.
The toolsetexport folder is normally created when the DA Toolset is installed and used for the first time. (It's the folder that the toolset uses for saves/exports of certain file types.) If the folder does not exist (because the toolset hasn't been used) then it can be created manually in the root of the override folder (DRIVELETTER:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override\toolsetexport).
3. Renaming a DAzip installer won't break it or affect the contents. The name of the external 'wrapper' isn't referenced by the contents, and renaming the DAzip won't affect the folder name of the installed mod in the AddIns folder.
