So disappointing. After 10 years of waiting. I had hope after the announcement of Lavellan being in Veilguard. Maybe getting some closure and being able at least talk to Solas. Choosing the conversation responses. But no.
trying to cope here, but what if we could actually select dialogue choices as Inq? Technically OP asked about playing as Inq. Man, all i want is to speak with solas as myself, not hear a conversation between two NPC. I don't want any side quest, any fighting - none of this. Hawke was handled poorly. I want to feel connection to hero I spend decade with... Is this truly so much to ask? No way it's hard to implement. New players can just have an option for @canon@ mode, where Inq follows a script...
If even that isn't happening, then I really wish they had either let my inky go with Solas at the end of Trespasser, or just killed her. Having to just sit by and watch is unbearable.

I also hope that if we don't play our inquisitor we can at least manage dialogues. It would be really disappointing if we had no control over our inquisitor and his relationship with Solas.
Luke, I see you liking that post and it fills my heart with potential hope.
PLAYING a character vs making dialogue wheel choices for a character... teeeeechnically are different things. So. Hopefully Inky is allowed, via player, some autonomy in how they speak to Solas (in theory) and what fate they might decide for Solas (in theory), be they rival, friend, or romanced.

Doesn't non-playable mean you don't control them, for combat or dialogue? I mean, I wish there was something we could do as the Inquisitor, but I thought Epler's words were fairly straightforward.
Edit: Now Luke has liked my post.. Curiouser and curiouser..

Maybe? It's been 10 years of technological advances as well so I fully admit I am assuming that playing i.e. controlling a character through combat could/should be entirely different from choosing dialogue choices in cutscene-esque ways.
For 10 years people have been asking "can I play my Inquisitor again?" in a way that feels like they want Inky in Rook's place. Which isn't what's happening. But I don't think that entirely precludes the player from still having some say-so in Inky's ultimate actions/decisions. Perhaps the technology didn't exist 10 years ago to give our Hawke that sort of autonomy. Perhaps BioWare saw the negative feedback on how Hawke was handled in DAI and decided to do Inky differently.
I know it's our Solavellan nature to immediately hellspiral to worst case scenario. I'm choosing - until the game is in my hands - not to throw my body off the precipice into total despair a month+ before finding out for real.

Or I guess it could be as simple as a half-truth. "You'll play as Rook the entire game... with the exception of certain dialogue scenes" perhaps? I don’t know, it did seem to be a pretty casual way to just rip our hearts out, lol.

Back when we had the gameplay demo in June, I had plenty of thoughts about how things play out, we all did! And after the map icon turned up a couple of weeks ago, I was expecting one of my theories was right, even more.
And seeing this pic on twitter has confirmed it. Nice. Partly wish I hadn't been spoiled but also kinda glad I know?
Right on - Here we see the core Mage abilities on the PC.
I was wondering how things like Arcane Bomb worked.
I love how it's all detailed and give all the control combos to do things...but I'm personally mostly going to click buttons while I move around and see what happens.

On the other hand, default (default, not canon, don't hate me) Inquisitor is female Lavellan without vallaslin. Which is possible only if Solas is romanced. It is true - x.com/zevwardens/status/1836850715177931053

Since I saw it in one of the review videos, if you play on Keeper difficulty you'll have more room to experiment and not worry about optimizing builds or your play.
Т. 🐺💜 DA brainrot @rynthlen #veilguardspoilers Solavellannnnn choice, guys.
*delulu goes on* Well, the wording suggests you can control Inquisitor during conversation. Busche said you have to face some of the questions about nature of the romance, not get more information, light, story etc. Face The. Questions.

10 years. 10 years of discussion about Solavellan. Reddit, BSN, twitter, thread after thread. Watching Youtube discussion vids, tribute vids. Pondering, thinking, hoping. Wanting some sort of closure for our girl.

Brittney Brombacher @blondenerd Dragon Age: The Veilguard is shaping up to be the game of my DREAMS. (AHHH!) After playing for almost 7 hours, I can happily - and confidently - say it feels like Dragon Age *should* in 2024. My spoiler-free preview:
Lucanis.. That little smirk better not make me do irresponsible things.
The Antaam Qunari just look monstrous and that makes the DA2 comparison just ridiculous.
"Decoration Mode" ???? Corrine, I thank you for bringing your Maxis roots here.

And if they say that they couldn't let us choose the Inquisitor 's replies because technical stuff, I will be soo mad and call them liars. It's enough to watch how the Witcher let us play as Ciri or more recently Honkai Star Rail were there are segments where we can play and talk as another character other than the Trailblazer as part of the story .
What really struck me about it is how FAST the pacing is overall. It's moving at breakneck speed, with so much information threaded throughout action set pieces and fight sequences. And I can definitely see a version of this game where the Inquisitor was the main character, given how familiar Varric and Rook are with each other. I'm actually somewhat surprised by that, how we skipped their introduction, but their relationship and meetup might be elaborated further down the line. I'm definitely curious how new players will react to the game, since it seems like it'd be very easy to get lost very quickly.

I must say I am very pleased with what they've done with the inky's arm. I was prepared for some strange lyrium/ghosty thing, or a bulky monstrosity, but what they have is...kinda perfect.

After today's previews I hope the team are feeling a good deal of pleasure and relief.
