For discussion of the story from Act 2 in this thread (and no later). Splitting the discussion threads into 3 parts reduces the likelihood of people being spoiled. Act 2 starts after the big battle in Weisshaupt The best place to stop discussion is at the 'Point of No Return' marked by the quest 'When Plans Align' So mostly the quest 'The Price of the Past' up to the 'Point of No Return'. Once you're done with Act 2, the Act 3 thread is here: bsn.boards.net/thread/20359/act-3-story-discussion-spoilersPlease use Spoiler Tags.

52 hours. Act 1 finished (and what a climax it was). But loads of quests on the map now.

Well, I'm not sure but maybe I just did the last Act 2 main quest? It's back in Hossberg, Fire and Ice
I forgot to check if the story quest header changed before quitting for the night. Anyway, afterwards we got back to the Lighthouse and did another round table meeting and now I have the next round of companion quests to do.
Edit: after thinking about it, I think this may have been the 'mid-point' quest of Act 2 instead. Still need to check in-game though.

I came in here to check if anyone knew when Act Two ends, and I guess we really don't . My guess is that it's when you go to stop the the eclipse ritual since the game has a big yellow 'doing this quest will move the story forward' warning on it, but can anyone who has actually done that quest confirm? I don't want to leave any side content dangling if that's going to take me into the endgame.

Act 3 starts at the warning of "point of no return".

I'm doing the companions quest, and not having fun again. They are weirdly structured. Much back and forth for nothing. Writing still isn't it. I got emotional during the end of harding quest but then she dropped a line that sounded like some self help stuff you find on Insta. And I got taken out of the game again. Bellara quest is whatever, goofy villain, her brother being dead, then not, then guess he's dead then just meh. Besides why didn't we try to take the mask off? No idea. Felt clumsy. Like harding you got those big theme for Dalish/ Dwarves explored through just one character and for me it doesn't land. Taash quest is badly written. Again goofy ass villains. Yes I know Taash dragons aren't king, they're queens, it's been the third time you've been saying this one... Don't they have editors at Bioware anymore? I want to finish this game, but I'm struggling quite a bit and I aren't enjoying myself much.

The pacing of the stories is also very weird. I think they rely too much on the dialogue that happens while the characters go from one place to another. Now I think you can pull something like that off, I'm pretty sure the first Nier game did it, but I don't remember what exactly it did differently other than having a much better writing

I finished the Fire and Ice quest and it felt like a conclusion to Act 2 but I do have some quibbles about some unexplained lore stuff and how things are playing out with the villains. I'm enjoying my time with the game but I don't understand why no one ever mentioned the other Evanuris. What happened to them? They can't have died when their Archdemons died because Ghilan'nain didn't die after her Archdemon was killed. What's also strange is how in a matter of weeks/months our team was able to take down an Archdemon, two blighted dragons, and almost came close to finishing Ghilan'nain. Didn't the Evanuris rule Thedas for thousands of years. And to do all that we did not even need countries' official support but instead relied on smaller organisations. I'm trying my best to ignore these annoyances because otherwise I'm having fun with it.

Later in a main quests, if you pay attention to certain dialogue (it happens during a fight so it can be hard to listen) you'll have an idea of what might have happened to the other evanuris.

Thank you! I'll try to keep a close eye on the subtitles. As long as something is hinted I'll be ok with it. This game has tested my patience when it comes to getting all the answers I want! Second playthrough might be less stressful.

Updated the OP with a sensible split of the story discussion into three pieces (now I know what they are): Act 2 starts after the big battle in Weisshaupt The best place to stop discussion is at the 'Point of No Return' marked by the quest 'When Plans Align' So mostly the quest 'The Price of the Past' up to the 'Point of No Return'.

Not sure why they went that direction with Kal-Sharok dwarves. They were portrayed as mysterious, imposing and kinda dangerous folks in Inquisition war table missions. In Veilguard, they looked just like any other dwarves. I had a feeling they wanted the angle of blighted dwarves but ran out of ideas.

It's 8:45am here in UK. Going to play more in a little bit, but here's what I did yesterday. I feel like what I played yesterday felt like a natural end point for Act 2 - while not as big as Act 1's set piece, felt like a good set piece. More details in the spoiler box but it's where the 'Part 10' trophy/achievement pops. But also understand why an upcoming point of no return would be the start of Act 3, ha. I've got 2 stars with most factions now but Veil Jumpers due to us coming to their aid in the main story have gone up to 3. That Arlathan questline was good - felt silly being in disguise but it did show really how weird Venatori are (as well as being evil). People as seats? What? Haha. The mission itself was great - fighting demons and constructs and Venatori and rescuing Dalish folk - with a bit of help from Solas along the way while he argued with Elgar'nan.
Before that, I'd progressed some companion questlines a bit. Taash/Lords of Fortune Dragon Hunts and dinner with Taash's mother which didn't go well, with Lucanis I'm closer to ending his story - we have confirmation Zara Illario was absolutely the traitor, as if it wasn't obvious way back when we rescued Lucanis early in the game, and even more so when Zara was cut off calling him Amatus (side note, my Rook is called Amatus so it's hilarious hearing Zara call Illario that, it's like she's talking to my Rook instead!).
Biggest one though was Harding's - quest over (though apparently we get trophies/achievements pop when we finish these - mine didn't!) and I convinced her to use her compassion to overcome the rage. Now she has some nice shiny Inquisition armour and some healing and damage buffs. I feel like today is companion quest finishing day and... Seeing the Inquisitor again!

The Kal Sharok stuff really irked me. You get to visit a long-lost thaig that re-emerged from obscurity after Maker knows how long... and all you get is a corridor mission with absolutely no exploration and no lore except for Valta somehow making it to Kal Sharok and becoming a giant golem

Well I just finished Act 2 officially, and - RIP the butcher. You were in it for five minutes but you were one of the most memorable characters in the game. You were far too much of a real G for this story to handle for longer
