I can't just straight into Veilguard without first replaying the other Dragon Age games, so yesterday I fired up Leliana's Song, followed A Tale of Orzammar before beginning the six Origin stories, starting with Dwarf Commoner and ending with Human Noble (which I'll stick with for this run) After that I'm doing DA:2 and then Inquisition before finally downloading and playing Veilguard.
This will get me fully grounded into the world of Thedas, and it's going to be a long ride - probably won't even be starting Veilguard until January. Anyone else like me, or are you all just jumping straight into Veilguard?

Anyone else like me, or are you all just jumping straight into Veilguard? I can't speak for me personally because I'm not playing it now. However, I have seen several people saying they played the other games to set themselves up for Veilguard because it has been 10 years since Trespasser. Also, be warned, at least one of those is a reviewer who found that playing the other games immediately beforehand only made the differences more glaringly obvious. A lot depends on what is important to you in game. If you are just in it for the story then you should be okay. |

I never find Origins to be a slog, every playthough is pure pleasure, to the extent that I never want it to end. Inquisition's going to be the slog for me. I have such a love/hate relationship with that game - I find some parts really fun, and others a grinding chore to get through. Tempting to just focus on the main story and ignore all the filler and fetch quests - that would be the sensible option, but I know full-well that I won't and that I'll soon be trying to scramble up the sides of impassable cliffs in increasingly frustrated attempts to reach those damned shards.

I started inquisition the week the first Veilguard trailer was out but didn't finish it.. instead I played both Origins and DA2 and loved every minute, and only after that I played inquisition

I started Origins, got annoyed by all the crashes, and skipped to Inquisition. It was wonderful. Then went back and played 2 which was also fantastic. I wish we could get more smaller scale stories.

If you're playing Origins on a modern PC then it will crash quite a lot unless you install the 4GB patch. ntcore.com/4gb-patch/I've been playing the game with this patch for years now and never had a single crash. If, on the other hand, you're playing on console I can't help much as I know next to nothing about consoles.

I had crashes until I turned the graphics all the way down, including playing at a lower resolution in windowed mode for some scenes. So I have more freedom to play around and test things, I am running a full series playthrough using my first official alternate world state. And I must say, it has been interesting experiencing some of the content I've never encountered.
I am currently in the middle of my Inquisition run, but I hit a snag. I have a bugged Josephine romance, with no progression (flirted during completion of her personal quest, exhausted all personal questions, and still have not been told to talk to Leliana. I talked to her anyway, but didn't get anything). So I am currently planning on going back about five hours (beats restarting) to a different save, and triggering the Dorian romance instead. I like both, and, unlike my canon, it will be a long time before I revisit my alternate, so the change of course doesn't bother me.

Yeah I replayed Origins then skipped DA2 and went straight into Inquisition. The reason I skipped DA2 is because like Origins I've completed that game multiple times, but I have never finished Inquisition because long time ago I was an idiot and spoiled for myself one of the biggest plot twists in the series thus far. I did buy Veilguard through the EA App subscription service and I only invested three hours so far. One hour in character creation and two hours in the actual game. I will not play anymore until I finish Inquisition.

All I can say is that I've got everything maxed out, am running a tonne of graphical enhancement mods such as high resolution textures, shaders etc. and the game (for me) is as smooth as glass and never crashes.
If it's due to Windows 11 then I'm nervous about upgrading to it.

I was playing earlier this year, when we were still waiting for “ Dreadwolf “ and making DAD jokes… Didn’t have any crashes, but Leliana had no hair…or skull. I could swivel the camera around and look out through her eyes. Bit unsettling.

So I am currently planning on going back about five hours (beats restarting) to a different save, and triggering the Dorian romance instead. I was thinking about my characters, and realized I could remove the restraints on my Inquisitor. My favorite companion and romance is The Iron Bull, but I felt that my Adaar wouldn't trust the offer from the Qunari (which cuts off the possibility of Bull's romance; that, and Qunari is my least favorite race to pair with him). I felt I had to compromise a little to force the scenario, but now I will allow my Adaar to reaffirm Blackwall's romance instead of breaking up (he still gets left in the Orlesian prison), and avoid Demands of the Qun (allowing The Iron Bull to choose for himself, but unfortunately allowing Dorian to develop "HorriBull"). All of this to say that I will absolutely have my alt Lavellan Ride the (Qun) Bull. So now, back to it.

And then for the topic itself. I had planned on doing a full run on all games but honestly how this latest installment turned out, I'm not so enthusiastic. Someday I will but not anytime soon.

I have issues with in in windows 10, 4gb patch installed etc. The game has always been buggy and crash prone for me across multiple PCs and windows versions though so I'm used to fiddling with it and saving often. Its always felt like Biowares least stable game to me, with Mass Effect 2 being almost as crash prone as it (again for me ymmv). ME2 got fixed up with legendary edition at least and runs a lot smoother now, a DAO remaster would be wonderful but I doubt we'll ever get it. As far as replaying the older games its what I did off and on for most of the year since there wasn't a lot of new releases this year that interested me. I didn't get finished with inquisition before Veilguard launched though but I will say that it probably made me feel disapointed about veilguard in the beginning. I do like the game and am having fun especially once it opens up after the intro stuff but theres just this lingering feeling of what I wish it could of been in the back of my head.
