Edit: Forget everything. After five hours, I found a youtube video with the correct information, and it took 2 minutes to set it up properly.
ON the off chance someone else ever finds this with the same problom: ignore every website telling you to do this through twitch. It can no longer be done through twitch, it was disabled. There is no "activate microphone" setting on the website, everyone is referring to 3rd party apps that are unnecessary and do not solve the problem.
Simply go into the settings through the Xbox console button, select capture and stream, and turn on the microphone from there (assuming you've already set it up for twitch first.)
Forget all that. I solved it and the answer was stupid (I had to delete "https://" because that makes sense...)
My real issue is that I used to be able to capture my microphone plugged into my laptop, and now it no longer works. I can't find any info on why this is no longer an option, or what people do to record with microphone instead, but I have seen a lot of references to the feature requiring a third-party app. I don't think I want to bother if I have to do that, but if anyone knows a way to do it normally that still works, that's what I'm currently trying to figure out.
I'm giving up, but I remembered to drop a question in here because of how often someone actually seems to know how to fix a problem the rest of the internet doesn't.
I can't link my X Series to my Twitch account. It says to go to www.twitch.tv/activate and enter a code, but the website is always blank and has no field to enter the code. There is a twitch logo on the top left, a blank header, and the address adds ?no-reload=true at the end (no idea if that last part is even relevant.)
I've been searching for hours, but I can't find any information on X Series activation being disabled, or anything that would explain why it isn't working. I can't use the QR code (long story, but it isn't an option) so unless I'm able to figure out some other way, I've lost access to twitch on Xbox.
I haven't used any of this in a few years, so they probably changed things, but this used to be really easy. I don't know what happened or why nothing works anymore, but when I tried to contact Twitch support, I hit a wall and they won't accept any submissions from me.
This is just a hail mary on the off-chance someone has run into this problem and has any ideas about how to get around it.``
