I can see this happening, but not with the father. Imagine Ryder gets into a sticky situation, gets caught. Cut back to the Tempest, a salarian says, "Where's Ryder, he/she should be back by now." Then goes off to get Ryder with you playing as him. This would kill two birds with one stone, the complaints that we never get to play as aliens and it would advance the story.
EDIT : I think that everybody forgets that Ryder has military training but has seen no combat. This makes him/her a n00b when it comes to fighting, at least in terms of getting captured.

This is an idea that I had in my mind for a couple months now. the possibility that the game would put you in the shoes of a character/characters other that the Ryder siblings at certain points of the narration. Knights of the Old Republic II did it, the witcher 2 & 3 did it as well.
In the particular case of Mass Effect Andromeda, I would personally welcome this option as of now (and I hope iof it happens, it's well done and relevant to the story and how they want to tell it), because I'm currently more interested in Dad Ryder and his background, than in the Ryder brothers. We haven't seen much of them, and the little we have seen or heard about them did not impress me at all. I know my opinion will likely change starting tomorrow, when we will get more information on the characters, the story, the backdrop of the Andromeda initiative (sponsors, objectives, timeline of the construction and departure of the Arks, etc).
Like I said, it's a very personal opinion, I see the N7 operative as far more interesting to me right now than the Ryder siblings or the hamburglar asari, but it's also because the little 'reveals' we have seen in the form of trailers had him and his iconic N7 armor at the forefront.
