Still Baldurs Gate 3 for me - there is nothing newer, that could scratch that itch for me - great characters, interesting setting and storyline and lots of lore the get lost in. Another game, I'm still playing is Guild Wars 2, it's just really fun and the amount of details in this game is wonderful. I just found out, that there is an event, where you save the concert of a Charr metal band - and the music is great.
Oh and I have started DAO and Bloodlines again, since I often play classics in winter. It's kind of a tradition.

Games I played 2024 that were new to me:
Venba
Return to Monkey Island
Pathfinder: WotR
Veilguard
Persona 3: Reload
You could argue BG3 too, since I got it last christmas, but played most of it in 2024.
Of these games I have to say WotR was probably my favorite. Didn’t really gell with the combat, but the rest was amazing. Had it not been such a large endeavor I would definitely have replayed immediately, but it’s a long game with lots of reading.

Sorry to derail slightly, but...how was this? I loved the Monkey Island games when I was a kid. I liked it, but I can understand why some people will find it undermines the lore. It’s definitely more simple than the other games and the art style is up to personal preference. I think the easiest answer is, it Depends how you feel about the ending of MI2.

Metaphor takes best game for me this year. Best RPG and it's not even close, and best overall experience. After that well this year didn't have great AAA experiences but it did have a bunch of wonderful indie games.
Hard to go past Balatro. Hades 2. Even Astro Bot.

It's one of those games that I really liked, but would be tough to recommend with the breadth of systems it has. It makes BG3 look like an elementary school game. And if you were looking to get the best ending - buckle up.

It's one of those games that I really liked, but would be tough to recommend with the breadth of systems it has. It makes BG3 look like an elementary school game. And if you were looking to get the best ending - buckle up.  I was naive enough to think I could handle it because of BG3. Quickly gave up and just lowered the difficulty. I played as a kitsune, so of course I also went Trickster. Was super fun, but some of the others seemed like they could be super fun for a playthrough. edit: I got some things spoiled, so I ended up finding a guide for that ending.

I only ever played full Angel and Demon -> Legend. Did the former on Core Last Azlanti on a melee Paladin. Talk about masochism.

I used a mod that lets you merge Paladin Angel spellbooks and it was 100% worth it. Shouldn't have to be Oracle to burn everything in righteous fire.
