I don't know why this knowledge isn't more widely known already but I found a way to downgrade to the old Origin, keep it from updating, and go online to play ME3MP. Not that I really expected to find anything I didn't already know, I stumbled onto this when I was searching for tips on how to handle the Retaliation glitch. (Side note, I actually did fix mine, I'll add that info at the bottom.) EDIT: I'm on Windows 7x64 Enterprise. These instructions should work if you're on Windows 7, but if you're on 8/8.1/10, try the alternate directions from Lvca below. Here is the thread I found on EA Answers. To quote: - Download our old Origin client via www.dm.origin.com/download/legacy
- Run the installer in Vista or XP SP2 compatibility mode (right-click installer -> Properties -> Compatibility)
- Note that Store and Social functions are not available on this Origin version. Any purchases can still be made via the webstore on another device.
I ran mine with Vista compatibility. After confirming I wanted to downgrade, it installed version 9-point-something over the newer version, and I was able to log in with the old interface. Things that didn't work: - in-game
- achievements
- friends list
- chat
- store? (forgot to test this)
It ran as well as it always did before the forced upgrade to version 10. It started quickly, logged in quickly, showed my games quickly. It only used one low-CPU-usage instance and didn't spawn any of those QtWebEngine processes the newer version does. I played a match online and all the weird lag was gone. Even if I just wanted to stop there, this would still be pretty amazing, but I wanted to still have access to my friends list somehow, so I decided to try an experiment. I wanted to see if I could have both the old and new version installed side-by-side. Here's what I did: - With the older version still installed, I renamed the folder Origin was installed in from Origin\ to Origin2\
- I re-ran the Origin installer, this time without compatibility mode enabled
- I verified the newer version loaded fine and that all the functionality was enabled (in-game, friends list, etc.)
- I exited out, went to the Origin2\ folder, and loaded the old Origin
Not only did it work, but I had my friends list, achievements, and chat!My theory is that there are some shared assets or something somewhere that lets the old version have more functionality when the newer version is installed too. When I click on the "store" tab in the old version, it shows the newer-style store tab, complete with the sidebar menu added to the new Origin. One extra, extra bonus to using the old version like this: I believe that the join game function works, even if the person you're joining is using the newer version of Origin. Regarding the Retaliation glitch: I think I picked it up earlier in the day after force-closing ME3, because every subsequent time I tried playing, it would crash either after loading into the main menu, or attempting to quicky jump into the MP menu. A full repair didn't do anything, but a re-sync of my N7HQ profile appears to have fixed it. After a re-sync, I tried playing again, and while it seemed like it was going to freeze and crash a few times when trying to load into the MP menu, it eventually loaded fine and didn't have any problems or crashes after that. Anyway hope this helps anyone having trouble with the new Origin, let me know if it works for you (or doesn't). I forgot to mention it but if it makes any difference, I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. Edit: formatting Edit: specified possible differences between Origin on Windows 7 and Origin on newer versions of Windows

It's funny you mention this cause I had to do sth similar to eliminate my " Origin is blank problem". Not only the desktop app would not load properly, but the webpage too. In my case it seems it also has something to do with my ISP . On this thread there are many solutions, but only the last one worked for me, and that's the one I'll translate. I run Windows 10 Education. What I did was: - Uninstall Origin
- Manually delete the hidden Origin folder on \ProgramData (which is also hidden)
- Run Ccleaner
- Reinstall origin (I just downloaded the normal, current installer through a VPN cause webpage is still blank). In the process Origin will start. Do not log in. Do not update. Just close it
- End any Origin task still active with Task Manager (I think there was an Origin updater or sth running in the background after closing "main" Origin)
- Start Origin on XP SP2 compatibility mode, let it update and log in. It will be and old version without friendlist (didn't check anything else).
- Close it
- Start it again, this time on Windows 7 compatibility mode
- I don't remember if it updated again (probably did), but you'll get Origin 9.sth with friendlist fully functioning (I have joined friends' lobbies and they have joined mine) and achievements working, though in-game no longer works. Haven't checked the store
I'm tempted to try the side installation, to see if I recover the in-game functionality. Will report back if I do.

I just suck it up. I would consider downgrading only for a working group chat and group voice chat. Unfortunately you can't get others to join your group chat if they have already upgraded. So it LOligin for me and skype and Discord.

So how long will this fix work? Is it permanent? Or if EA shoves more Origin up our butts, how do we counteract their offense?

No clue. The downgraded version doesn't ask to be updated, so, forever afaik.

Oh my gawd, N7 isn't even over yet where I live and EA is shoving Origin where it hurts...again...
I'm going to cry now. Like really. I'm crying. This is injustice. This is worse than Hillary Trump and Donald Clinton combined.
We're doomed!!!

Okay so whatever this newest verison of Origin is, it's a POS. ME3MP is almost damn near unplayable, I'm getting frame drops on maps where I never did before and even hosting has laggy feeling controls.
I have Win10, so I'm going to try @lvca-gr's fix

Thank you Crashsuit!
The new origin looks better but is absolute garbage when it comes to usability. Minimize buttons won't respond. Reload library does not show your games. You have to go somewhere. My dragon age is forever cloud syncing. Although there is nothing to sync. Pop ups that have special minimize me icons. what? And when you have crappy internet, origin is utterly confused.
Steam is wayyyyy better.

Alright the downgrade is awesome. thank lvca_gr and crashsuit.
What I like best is that Alt-tab is like instant now.
I guess, a mic investment will be good now.

So, some news: - I tried the side installation and didn't work
- Blankness both on the webpage and desktop app (store tab was still blank) was solved on N7 day
- Disabling compatibility mode brought back the in-game functionality, and so far it hasn't asked to be updated. That's how I run it now
- The old bug of not being able to select "away" as a status is back
- A new bug I had of the notifications graphically disappearing but somehow remaining, that didn't let me click on anything that would be behind where they appeared is gone
I haven't noticed differences in loading times or lag myself, so I'm debating upgrading to the new one if the "away" thing bothers me too much again.

frankly this doesnt work for me!
Its like this i have my ports opened!
when i thick UPNP in my router settings ppl (and i mean anyone) will be able to join my lobby but they will lag out. And i wil be able to join anyones lobby but i will lag out. This all is happening after the last update. Be4 the last update for a week or so everything was perfect
when i unthick UPNP in my router settings i will be able to join lobbies (not all of them just random ones). Also randoms wil be able to join my lobby. In both cases there will be no lagging out. The probs is i can only join handful of mates - and only handful ogf mates can join my lobby (Andy, Lvca, Mr, Goldarm). For everyone else its the joining limbo time. Now this issuie hasnt been tackled with since 2013.
I thought this was a solution but i doubt it,. Downgrading origin makes the game unplayable fps are around 10 for me and the ppl in my lobby, sure vella and dzejkob can join but we gave up wave 2 ( so i am not sure this even works)
The only thing i can do is wait for another update in a hope things will go back be4 the current update!
Hope springs eternal

I'm not sure how to help you guys with problems joining friends, I think that's a whole separate issue, one on which I don't have a lot of knowledge.

I'm not sure how to help you guys with problems joining friends, I think that's a whole separate issue, one on which I don't have a lot of knowledge. Yeah, I've done absolutely everything suggested for this matter and still am sometimes unable to join friends or they can't join me directly. However, we've found out that either joining over another friend in the same lobby or sending a party invite through Origin to the one unable to join may fix that issue. Maybe if you have opened all relevant ports on your side but your friend hasn't done so on his side, problems can also occur - I have no idea...

Maybe cause i m at work though When I'm at work, our firewall blocks a bunch of gaming-related stuff, including most of the connections Origin needs to work, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the issue. I thought it downgraded automatically once in a while? I have never before heard of this happening, except from one other person earlier this week on these forums, and I suspect they may have put it into compatibility mode without realizing it.

I downgraded Origin by reinstalling Windows after the Windows Store gave it PC AIDS.
Now I am unsure if I want to reinstall Origin, but it's the only way to play ME3MP again.
