If Level 3 Immunity has an 80% damage reduction bonus and rank 12 Shock Trooper has a 16% damage reduction bonus, that means I have 96% altogether, right? That's the logical conclusion, although you never really know with Bioware.

The various sources of damage protection are multiplied by one another, they don't add directly.
So those two together would be like (1-0.8)(1-0.16)= 16.8% damage taken, or 83.2% damage protection. Of course you are probably not naked, so there is bound to be another 30, 50, whatever protection from that.
