Never played DAMP was it really that bad? There were a few things they got right, even better than ME3MP. For example, the characters were for the most part much more balanced. You don't have kits that are massively broken and others that are massively underwhelming like in ME3. Also, the Skill trees were much deeper, allowing for various builds possibilities. Some trees were so deep that there are characters that can be built either as DPS or Support, others as either DPS or Tank. Also the multiplayer kits were voiced, having different responses according to the situation. But yeah, other than those things, DAMP was in every other aspect a game much inferior to ME3MP.

I never understood the purpose of promoting. For Dragon Age Multiplayer it makes a world of difference. For instance a player with few to no promotions has 500 Health Points and say he takes 1,000 damage from a given enemy attack on the second highest difficult level, being instantly killed. A highly promoted player has 2,000 Health Points and takes 40 damage from the same enemy attack, barely a scratch. It sounds absurd, but that is the way promotions work in Dragon Age and this is something nobody wants to see in a Mass Effect game.

Keep in mind though that it also financed all the free DLCs for ME3MP which was a great thing. Eeehhhhhhh.... Actually I hate the last two crappy Dlcs so much I have mixed feelings about this one. Anyway, If promoting points per character are capped and very limited -much like Borderlands, that's ok. But there are people like me who do not promote. What a hassle. Fuck promotions. The hell are they doin'? That (capped and limited) would be the only mitigating factor for what otherwise would be a game breaking decision. The great fun in ME3MP (at least for me) came from the fact that you could find different ways of beating the game using the great variety of existing characters. Now imagine someone playing and promoting the same character over and over and over... that's a total killjoy as far as I'm concerned.

Meh, I'm just gonna sit on my N7 270 again (nostalgia reasons), and look down at people who promote... Kinda like I do in ME3MP. Not much will change Except that I'll have to recruit a group of cool guys not propomitng and only playing private matches with them XD

I once shocked my peers by NOT promoting in DAMP lol. At that time I felt I had enough promotions, since the hardest difficulty was not hard at that stage. Then they introduced a harder difficulty! and then ANOTHER harder difficulty!!

There were a few things they got right, even better than ME3MP. For example, the characters were for the most part much more balanced. You don't have kits that are massively broken and others that are massively underwhelming like in ME3. I'll just leave that here:

Hey, where's my microtransaction trollstore? I gotta have it! You can be sure there will be one in the next ME game also as it's a great source of revenue for EAware. Keep in mind though that it also financed all the free DLCs for ME3MP which was a great thing. Fun fact: Battlefield 1 has a "store" in game. You can currently upgrade your version only. The purchase to buy "battlepacks" (skin drops) is currently unavailable.

The stat bonus on promotions is the main reason I quit dragon age. Either I steamrolled everything when I tried to play threatening with my significantly less promoted friends, or they got destroyed on perilous (unless they used AW or a barrier mage). Needless to say they didn't stick around long. The instant bleed out after being downed three times thing just made the stat gap too punishing.
I think stat bonuses also offer poor counter-play when queuing into public matches. Players just starting to transition into a new difficulty will likely either be kicked for not having enough prestige, or they'll run into people playing low level characters trying to farm xp. Making xp gains nearly identical between difficulties would be a band-aid fix, but that would just mean an even greater number of highly prestiged players roflstomping lower difficulties.
I hope it hits diminishing returns quickly. Admittedly, the promotion system is something they still have yet to nail down and I'm curious to see how it plays out. N7 rank was too meaningless in ME3 (though promoting being a free respec was useful), but way too powerful in DAI.

I think SpaceVegeta's idea about granting things that don't effect gameplay is the best solution;
Or unlocking things, getting a free chest, whatever. Just not stat boosts.

Some trees were so deep that there are characters that can be built either as DPS or Support, others as either DPS or Tank. Also the multiplayer kits were voiced, having different responses according to the situation.
But yeah, other than those things, DAMP was in every other aspect a game much inferior to ME3MP. The voices were one of the things that killed DAMP for me. One weekend early on we were supposed to use a dwarf character repeatedly and after the third or fourth time I couldn't stand his "I wonder if I'll ever go home again" line. I started screaming "No, no you won't!" at him on the next few outings, followed by quitting in disgust. I think I put in 30 hours in DAMP vs. 3000 in ME3MP. Combat barks are great, dialogue not so much.

This prestige thing might seem interesting. From reading a few earlier post's, does that mean certain characters will get a permanent bonus for promoting them? How did this function in DAI? I am still working on my 1st DAO playthrough.

Combat barks are great, dialogue not so much. Yeah, some of them were repetitive, but there were some nice interactions too. I really loved the Necromancer's one like "This is ridiculous. Why did I agree to come here?", "Plan or no plan, if you die, I get your corpse" and when she got revived "Let us never speak of this again". Also Isabella and Zither's flirtation which were added later were really funny too. Overall the kits in DAMP had more personality and uniqueness to them, that is something I welcomed and I would like to see it being carried over to MEAMP.

I am still working on my 1st DAO playthrough. There was no upper limit, so time played = artificial git gud due to built-in god mode Having no upper limit for promotions ruined the game. Promotions in DAMP awarded all sorts of bonuses such as Health Points, Critical Chance (which can reach 100% with enough promotions), Damage Resistance and so on. Those bonuses were permanent and shared by all kits in your account. It became impracticable to play with someone who had played the game a lot less than you have unless they were willing to get carried. In ME3MP a player who has 400 hours in the game can outplay a player who has 2,000 hours. In DAMP that is impossible. You may barely contribute to the game. This system works Ok in a game that has a 7-digit playerbase like Diablo III. It doesn't work in a 3-digit (maybe 4-digit at one point) playerbase like DAMP. Now we can argue that a cap might stop the promotion system apocalypse, but where would that cap be? 30 promotions? 60 promotions? These numbers are so subjetive. For some players 15 promotions would be insanely high, while others may get these many promotions in two days. For a Mass Effect game I would rather not have this system altogether.
