I cannot understand why they're seemingly proud of not announcing a new trilogy right outta the gate with a transferable Ryder and going all "ohh it could totally be a new different PC in next game" It WAS one of the main appeals of Mass Effect 1-3, unique against all competition in the gaming industry and one of the main reasons fans got so invested. To even discuss the possibility of not repeating it seems like a huge cop-out and decrease in ambition on the devs' part taking the easy way of not having to bother with transferrable choices to put it bluntly...

I think it's more them playing it safe, in case Andromeda turns out to be a disaster.
If it's successful I really hope they don't decide to go the DA route with a different protag every game, I like that we got to watch Shep & crew grow and change over the games.

Agree I prefer continuity across multiple games. But I don't think anything is concrete. I kind of think it will depend on how well received playing within a family dynamic ends up being and generally how successful the game is.

Because they aren't going to plan that far, since they're probably going to wait to see how Andromeda will be received.

I certainly don't want an inquisitor trilogy (would still sell an arm for a Hawke trilogy), so let's see how Andromeda goes... But yeah, the original trilogy was such a unique amazing experience because it was one big story with the same characters I grew REALLY attached to.

I think they realized just how much of a story branch clusterfuck the original trilogy ended up being and they want to see how well received Ryder is going to be before going all in again.
I think at the very least we'll see the Dragon Age style of save imports with a few things used here and there even if it's not a proper trilogy.

Let's see how this first story goes before we get too disconcerted about their approach. I think having each game be a fully self-contained story is a great idea. They sucked at the "three games, one story" thing. They never said definitively they were going to have revolving door protagonists or the like. They only said that MEA is a complete, stand-alone story. I approve.

I loved Shepard but hated Hawke, so I think it's very reasonable for Bioware to wait and see what the fan reaction is. If I love Ryder and MEA, I hope for a continuation with them and their squad. If I don't like either I hope Bioware moves on (or even back to the MW).
I'm also not in favor of a new protagonist each game if the current protagonist is beloved, because watching Shepard and crew deepen their relationships is one of the best parts of the ME trilogy for me. Starting over with new companions each game and hearing a new set of daddy issues is less appealing.
Here's hoping everything goes well!

Not looking good on this front, Mac Walters twitter would suggest they have ideas about what to do next.
But "trilogy" is out of the picture.
Worst news if you're me, I play this game for the interactive story that carries over into the next game.

Maybe this is being looked at in the wrong way, instead of Bioware either forcing 3 games out if sales/feedback is not good they can hold at 1, or 2, yet if Ryder & Co. are popular enough, nothing stops games 4,5,6 etc being made, all self contained so that the tale can end at any time.
Just my opinion

This is basically a repeat of a post I made a couple of months back when we were discussing whether or not we want a recurring lead character, but for me it really comes down to the scale of the story and what you achieve in the first game as to whether I'd want to play the same character again.
If my character's already saved the galaxy or the human race, or things on this level, then, well, they've done it all basically. Any continuing story with that character is either going to have to set up a contrived way to reduce their capabilities or escalate the threat even further to the point of ridiculous, lest it all seem trivial for the all conquering hero, and the character's abilities and status must get utterly ridiculous if they're capable of saving the galaxy multiple times (and yes, I do feel the old ME trilogy suffered horribly from this). A new character on the other hand, doesn't have the baggage of the old one's success, and can thus be placed against less powerful antagonists without it seeming like a step down for them (much like in DA, where the Warden saves the world, then Hawke's story is a smaller scale one).
Conversely, if the first game is a relatively small scale one (at least when it comes to what you ultimately achieve), then I'd like to take the same character into further games, to see how they grow, and how the antagonists/threats escalate in a more reasonable manner. If ME:A is about how the character becomes a hero, how they become special, if we make a name for ourselves by, say, saving one world, then that leads perfectly into further games where we can achieve greater things (So, effectively, MEA2 starts about the point in the story where most BW games these days do).
Given that they're not sure whether to not they will do a trilogy, it makes me suspect that the story will be closer to the former of these two possibilities, with a complete tale, rather than one that builds up things slower in anticipation of taking it further in a sequel. If this is the case, then I'm more than happy to have ME:A as the end of Ryder's story and a new character next time round.
