I was watching a stream of Mass Effect with the scene on Virmire between Shepard and Wrex. And someone in that stream mentioned that Ashley can shoot Wrex without warning or telling her to do so. That was new to me as I only know about the version where you have the option to let her shoot him. So I looked it up and yes, she can indeed shoot him without warning or choice.
It felt a bit weird, seeing her shooting Wrex without any apparent warning, twice I believe even. Although, to get to that point you have to use mostly negative/renegade options in the conversation, to make the situation more tense. So that might somewhat justify it. And she is a highly trained soldier that may have dealt with similar situations and wasn't gonna take any chances. It still felt a bit out of place. Any thoughts?

My question would be; Just because it was put in the game as a option are we obligated to discuss it as a character trait for Ash at all? A renegade Shep can be a total jerk if you role-play him that way. My Shep was not a jerk. The Ash I know would not shoot Wrex in the back without warning. My Ash and Wrex were best friends. Sorry, I just can't discuss this. Didn't happen in my canon world state.

Sorry, I just can't discuss this. Didn't happen in my canon world state. You are not obligated to discuss anything really, and that's fine. I get what you mean, and that's probably the main reason I even brought it up. It just doesn't add up. It was new to me and felt weird, really weird actually, considering how I see Ashley. I get her mistrust, and perhaps her background as a soldier, but acting like that felt out of place. So I was curious if it could somehow be explained through her story/background. Trying to place it. I really consider it a writing fail, it's not coherent with who she is, how she has been protrayed prior to that point. Renegade Shep is what you decide, Ashley was decided by Bioware. And perhaps I shouldn't dwell on it. I'll leave it at a mishap.

I'm not sure if I remember it right, because it was two games ago now, but I remember that you (Shep) has a quick word with Ashley and Kaidan after Kirrahe tells Shep that Wrex needs to be "dealt with". Ashley said something along the lines of "be careful, we'd better be on our guard" or even "be careful, i'll be on my guard." I took it to mean Ash was telling Shep that she would back him/her (her in this case) up, and was asking Shep if she could pull a gun on Wrex if necessary. Shep then nodded or agreed as if to say "permission granted". That was a FemShep with a good rapport with Ashley, maybe Ash steps in a bit more if you Shep has shown interest in romancing her or if your Shep has taken a dislike to Ash and never talks to her.
Whow, just read the wiki, that's a lot of options!
To be fair, I don't actually know because I've yet to fail to talk Wrex down, I'm too fond of Wrex myself. It's the main reason I got ME1 at all, and I've yet not to have found his ancestral armour. In terms of Ashley's character, I can see her acting without permission only if she was afraid that Shep would order her not to, or if Shep's trust in Wrex was so great that he/she failed to see the possibility of Wrex turning on him/her and not discussing it with Ash and Kaidan first. I guess she's a good soldier, and threatening to kill her commanding officer, whether it looks certain or not, is probably a good way of getting Ash to shoot you first and ask questions later.
I HC that Ash is fully prepared to shoot Wrex at that point (possibly not from behind with a shotgun, since that looks like the hardest way to kill a krogan quickly ever, might let her use a sniper rifle. Wrex would then know.) and then in ME3 she apologises to Wrex, having held Shepard at gunpoint as well by now. Wrex of course dismisses this, he'd have done the same in her position. But Ash at least told Shep what she was doing , first.

The only problem I have with Ashley is the severe lack of content post Mass Effect 1.

This has got to be one of the best artwork made of Ashley. Love the realism, her determined look, the strong woman she is. Although it's a snapshot you can really read a lot from that look. Determination but at the same time some hesitance, keeping her distance or biding her time.

It was out of place and weird. Renegade Shep is what you decide, Ashley was decided by Bioware. And perhaps I shouldn't dwell on it. I'll leave it at a mishap. If I'm using the scenario where Ashley just shoots Wrex, I usually start with a MaleShep who is romancing Ashley but also genuinely likes Wrex... but is not a "smooth" enough talker to manage to talk Wrex down. The situation evolves where Wrex is looking very much like he's going to shoot Shepard, so Ashley just steps in to "protect him"... She does, after all say to Shepard (as part of the romance dialogue) "Don't worry, I'll protect you." After shooting Wrex, she will tell Kaidan... "Better him than the Commander." To answer why the Commander doesn't shoot Wrex himself... He hesitates to shoot a friend... the same scenario can come up again in ME3 when Shepard's gun is trained on Ashley... and Garrus shoots her or a Shepard who has since learned not to hesitate shoots her himself (provided, of course, I haven't taken him down the route of reconciling with Ashley... in which case she stands down and doesn't get shot).

I'm going to go a bit off this thread for a moment and ask something to my fellow ash fans.
does anyone else wish she had a tough girl moment? I kinda wish, at some point in the series, she kicked the shit out of a korgan, while on the citadel. Not shoot them ofc, but actually put in him the med center/hospital, for a week. Something to show the galaxy, that she can be just as tough as Sheppard, when she needs to be.

I don't think Ash needs to prove it. She had her moments in the Citadel DLC, she punched a batarian (i think) out and the bit where she floors a bunch of mercs to come to Shep's rescue in the car lot just pleases me no end. She's pretty much Shep's number one back up squad in the last mission in Leviathan too. To be honest, with my Ash-mancing Shep she's his one woman army throughout. Sometimes I worry she and Garrus are going to come to blows over it. Garrus: "I'm Shepard's back up." Ash: "Huh? Since when?" Garrus: "Since always." Ash: "But I was there first!" Garrus:"Ha! You walked off! I was his back up on the suicide mission." Tali: "I think you'll find that it was me and Miranda he took to fight the human reaper embryo thing." Shep: "Guys, there's room for two of you in my squad...although it would be nice if one of you was biotic.... Liara! Get your coat!" Ash: "Well Shepard, that's the last time I bring you breakfast in bed." Shep: "Garrus, haven't you got something to calibrate?"

As I'm usually a MaleShep, I would have preferred they allocated an order - 1st - the VS, if not shot during the Citadel Coup and if invited back on the ship; 2nd, the LI - even if it's an ME2 LI not eligible to be on the ship (e.g. Jack or Miranda) and even Steve or Traynor (although the cutscene would change to Shepard saving them usiing biotics if Shepard is a biotic, tech if an engineer, the pistol if a soldier... since those two would be in over their heads); 3rd - James as the default if VS is not on the ship and there is no LI. Fortunately, for a lot of my playthroughs, I do get Ashley, since she's my most frequent end game LI.

I just wanted to share my favorite Ash tribute video. It's not the best as far as editing goes, but it does capture the mood well, combined with a great song. It has some melancholy, hope, and in the end getting the love you dreamed of. The song has a certain flow, getting there in the end, defying the odds, coming home to your love, Ashley in this case.

Steve would be easy to explain. In fact it makes no sense for him not to be there since he's with the squadmates while chasing the clone in the archives. Jack and Miranda I don't see a problem showing up. But with Sam, I would rather have Ashley show up instead of.......... Another way of doing it is to have Bailey show up.

Hey guys, we are still missing some of the veteran Ashley fans from the old forums. Guys like DWH, Cptain Data, survivor686, etc. I sent a couple messages to Survivor and JasonShepardN7, we had a way to contact each other through the Fanfiction website (we read and edited each other' work).
Is there a way you can get a hold of them? These forums are becoming more and more similar to the good Ash threads we used to have in the previous iterations of the BSN.

That would be very nice, seeing some of the old crew, so to speak. I tried logging on to the old forums but they're terminated now. Hopefully they'll find their way to here.
No idea how to contact them. I think after the close down of the old forums, there were basically 2 options, these forums and another one. Forgot the name, perhaps they're there or moved on.

I saw this tribute before, didn't like it at first because the chorus of the song was a bit meh, but it grew on me, and it has nice editting.
I will say though, the best tribute to ME also had a lot of Ashley in it. I wish that guy would do an Ashley tribute. I bet he would nail it, that guy is very talented. I've linked it before in this thread, it's by Genol3oost on Yutube, Mass Effect 3 = Remember me.

Hey all I'm still around, life is just somewhat busy these days - mostly due to a thesis that refuses to write itself up. Hence I'm mostly lurking these days. (Mass Effect Consensus - a fanfic involving the daughter of Shep and Ashley, nanotechnology, and a research base at the bottom of an ocean - is still on my to-do list, but I don't see myself starting it for months...) Have to say, I'm annoyed that they actually fully shut down the old forums. Even if they didn't want to host further conversations, they could have just left them locked, like they did with the original BSN. Would have been nice to be able to look back at the old threads.

Hey! I don't think anyone remembers me from Ash's original BSN threads (very old ones), since I was MIA for a long time, but I was active in her threads in some period of time. Just wanted to let you know that my support hasn't changed and she's still my fav character in the entire trilogy. Hell, she was the only reason I played as DudeShep. And she was my FemShep's BFF anyway. And the disappointment I felt after her role in ME3... geez. Too little screentime. I wish we could have had Chris L'Etoile to write her that time. Sigh.
