Thing is without save imports it will be really hard for Alec to talk about Shepard specifically without ruining a lot of people's personal Shepards. Also this could lead to the Dragon Age effect where previous protagonists are described in ways you didn't roleplay them as. Hawke being an notable offender. |

I think it's more likely that the Ryder twins could have known Shepard, since they seem at most 5-6 years younger. That's a possibility for getting answers directly from the player, similar to Knights of the Old Republic II.

Actually since Shepard is 29-31 years of age, and the twins look 18-25, this is EXTREMELY unlikely... Seriously though, I doubt Bioware will add any people with direct relationships to Shepard or their exploits. At most, maybe once we find out the Milkyway Galaxy got reapered, someone will say "Oh Commander Shepard was right all along" and that will be it. |

I love Shepard as much as the next person, but I don't want any baggage from the previous trilogy, thanks. I'd prefer it if Shepard weren't even mentioned.

On the serious side, though, Ryder is from Anderson's generation. He'd be more likely to know of David Anderson than Shepard, on a personal level. Anderson was the first to graduate from ICT, according to my ME wiki fact-checking. (I'd forgotten that factoid.) No doubt Alec Ryder followed shortly after. |

Not only are the two part of the exclusive club that get to "wear the stripe", but they're each a pretty big deal. Alec was part of Grissom's first trip through the Charon Relay. Guys like him and Anderson are the standout leaders that guys like Shepard would've looked up to, coming up the ranks. Shepard, by now, is the Lone Survivor/Butcher of Torfan/recipient of the Star of Terra, and the Hero of the Citadel. He's bigger than life. I'd be totally okay if Alec name dropped him. N7s are in the same elite company, after all. It would feel legit. |

Alec was one of the first people to go through the Sol relay I thought? Might have to read it again.
In any case thats 30 years before Saren. These are different people from different era's.
Served under Alec during the Skylian Blitz perhaps?
